Drying and Curing

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to this and I'm having some issues. Any help is greatly appreciated. I cut down the ladies the other day and from what I've read, hanging them for 5-7 is ideal, then put them in a bag to dry some more or jars for curing. Well, after about 2 days the buds were crispy and smelling like hay. Any idea what causes this? Some things I've read say it could be from not flushing enough. I'm in flood and drain and flushed for 5 days. Did I completely screw myself or what? I didn't think I needed to flush more than that since I always kept my ppms at about 800. I didnt notice them increasing in the runoff after about 3 days either...help! Let me know what other info you need if any.

Thanks!

the smell is part of the curing process. after drying curing is just the buds expeling the last of the moisture left inside the bud and stem. i dry 5-7 and once they feel dry i jar them up and let them sit for a few hours and check for condensation on the inside of my jar. if its heavy i put them in a bag for about 12 hours and stir em around softly every few hours. then back in the jar for another test. sometimes repeating a couple times untill there nice and curred and the stems break rather than bend.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. That gives me hope. I have them in a paper bag now and they're fairly damp still. Trying to slow the drying process in hopes of getting that sweet delicious smell. So does all herb smell like a barn before getting to that sweet stage? Also, what do you think about me only flushing for 5 days? Too little for 700 ppms in flood and drain or do you think that is not an issue?

it all comes down to your strain. I dont even have to cure my shit in jars in it stinks from the day I chop it. If you water with enough water it shouldnt mater if you flush or not at the end of your grow and if you dont use a grip of nutrient. if your bud is crispy through it in a zip lock bag leave it closed for a day and let it get moist again then burp the bag

yo take them out of the bag.
Once they feel dry put them in a bag for 6 hours. This is called sweating.
Step 1 Clip and hang for 3 days
2. Take them off the stalks and sweat.
3. Put them on screens for 2 or 3 days
4. Cure

I thought that was part of it. My grow was Chiesel; cheese and diesel. Smelled delish right before the chop. Two days drying and BAM. Gone. I'm hoping for the best.

I've heard of sweating before but what does that do exactly? I'll give it a shot tonight.

sumtimes it will go through that phase when it loses its smell. in my opinion when it does that you never really get a strong smell. you can try curing it in jars. I dont only because im running through 5 pounds every 7 weeks lol alot of jars

if its dry all the way you can just thro a qp in a decent size zip lock freezer bag and leave it closed for a day or two then leave it open for a while same idea as a jar

I've got a bunch of jars so I'll give that a shot. Didn't want to jump the gun with curing if it would mess it up. Would it be a bad idea to go straight to jars right after drying on the stalk?

What do you mean by a grip nutrient? I used Advanced for the entire session with a little Botanicare (liquid karma)

you can use all the additives you want as long as your not using to much is what i mean. like that bottle will tell you some retarded shit like use 1 to 3 teaspoons per gallon of water when really you want to use like half a teaspoon per 2 gallon
