Drying Bud with a Dehumidifier????

When you were suggesting a dehumidifier, I was thinking a typical compressor & refrigerant type.

This PE unit may not have satisfied the person who commented to you, but I'd be very tempted to give it a try, particularly given it's relatively cheap.

I don't know much about ebay but there's some terms regarding the postage cost on this item with this seller that you should probably look into before buying, dunno. They say the shipping wt is 13kg- that's got to be an error.

It might work sealed in a box but despite being a PE based unit, it will make some heat, just not as much as a compressor based type. If it heats up the box too much, I'd think about tearing it apart and mounting it through the wall of the box so the hot side of the PE cooler is outside of the box, while a small fan circulates air past the cool side of the PE cooler on the inside.

WTF, have a go, MacG. :D

You're damn right, i didn't read the small print. My post code is included in the extra shipping surcharge. I'll email them and see what they want for shipping costs.

That buyer may have throw theirs away cause it wasn't any use in a large room. The manufacturer of this little device may have made it for us boys:lol:.

What about using the contraption I use to make jerky? It is these stacking vented trays with a low temp heat element on the bottom and a fan...

Dehumidifyers arnt the best for your bud Sure it will dry it out quick but you loose taste big time ,And it will turn your bud brown in color ...
If you want quality smokin bud then dont go for a dehumidifyer ...

Cheers :bigjoint:

HW, not true.

An appropriately operating drying system will not exceed 29C and will damage neither scent nor potency.

I use a dehumidifier and fan to dry my Bud in a 10x10 bedroom. I keep both on low because you don't want dry your stuff out to quickly. After 3 or 4 days the small branches should snap when broken to let you know it's ready.:weed:

3 or 4 days, that is brilliant.

The seller contacted me, and said that the 13kg weight they were refering to, was for other items they sell, and that there is no extra postage charge to my area. I've just ordered one. I'll not have any bud to try out for a while. Al B do you fancy sending me some wet bud over here for me to dry out

fitz, sending the odd wet bud around isn't as practical as it once was, but I'll see what I can do. ;) Interested to hear how you go. :)

Just got the mini dehumidifier this morning.
I went into the £ store and purchased a little 6" fan and a large 110L tuberware container.

The size of the tuberware container is 31"L x 16"W x 17"H.
I have alot of nylon mesh (1mm holes), which i will have the bud laid out on.
Any ideas what i could make the frames (racks) from?

By the way, there's quite a noise from both the fan and dehumidifier, it sounds like a noisy fridge.

Your racks could be some plastic utility racks as found in Ye Olde Cheepe Junque Shoppe. I have some which are stackable, they fit together with some tubular plastic legs.

I'm a bit concerned about the heat that will accumulate in this box. Run it with the fan & dehumidifier unit, put a thermometer in there to see where temps go.

A motor speed controller on the white fan may shut it up a bit.

when people come to my store to buy dehumidifiers and a/c units and suffer from asthma i tell them to make a small water container next to their head so that the dehumidification goes mostly near your head not actually in it... sometimes people wake up literally dry and sore in the morning due to the fact that the unit dried all their pore sweat out during their sleep...

heres the question..... would it mold the buds? or would the cycle work ? ( the watered container )
