DS100 vs. New and improved Hans panel

Hello all,

I'm new here, but not new to the culture. Ventured in using LED's some years ago before the technology was really evolved to the point where it is now...Ive been up nights considering an LED lamp to purchase for a 2x2x5' space. Basically...I've narrowed it down to the DS100 or the new Hans panel which is supposedly going to be ready in about 2 weeks. I haven't really been able to find any small stealth grows using a single ds100..and the stealth grows I have seen using the Hans panel have very much impressed me. Right now I am leaning towards the Hans panel but I wanted to gather the opinion of the masses first before dropping the $300. The new design is going to utilize some more cree xt-e's and perhaps a few more lumiled reds? My main concern is stealth,,,I really do not want to run any serious ventilation other than air intake (as in opening the vents in my tent) and a few clip on fans to circulate the air, as i can control ambient temps quite well. So, what do you guys think? Really this decision has taken me about a month and countless hours of researching, it would be great to gain some positive (or negative) affirmations.

You could, it wouldn't be overkill, you'd grow some primo shit if you do it right! The A51 coverage is 2'x3' recommended, so it'll definitely cover a 2x2.

The unit will only run around 3-5 degrees hotter than ambient, max. So if you're running open tent with decent circulation, it should work!

I do an SGS and a 400W CMH in a 4x4 tent (twice your cubic feet), with a shitty booster fan (getting an Ostberg soon, should be a really significant upgrade)... I've hit temps around 91F for a couple days, when the outdoor temps were 93F+, but my plants look alright. Taco's wearing off this week. If you can take the temps, the plant can too.. it just might sweat a little.

Thats exactly what i wanted to know! Its an expensive light but seems to be an excellent piece of kit..compared to the hans panel? I kno its nearly double the wattage. 3-5 deg over ambient shouldnt be a problem with 70-75 deg ambient with open flaps and some clip ons for circ

I can't compare the two, as I've never used a hans, but people do rave about it. You get much better results with 2 of hans' panels per plant, but you can easily break 1 gpw even with just one. For the price of an SGS-160, you can get two, but they're undergoing a revision soon, might want to wait for that instead.

tl;dr I'm no help, you still have to decide.

The decision is agonizing. I was dead set on hans for my small tent until i started wondering...hmm...sgs COULD work in that space. I have been in contact with hans about the new revision and last night i was a second away from placing my order and awaiting the ship date (whenever it will be). Then a spliff got me to thinking... Whats going to be the best for my lil tent...

u would have to find someone that has used both ... good luck. i think a51 has really great spectrum for growing cannabis. i have a journal but not for 2x2 space.

I read through your journal and i really like what that light can do. I wish i had as much space though. I dont doubt the quality of the lamp whatsoever. My major concern is heat. But that has been eased a bit via previous Just trying to extract as much info as i can from people who have first hand exp. with these products. I might just have to suck it up and go for the a51 and properly document a 2x2 grow :p

well that would be interesting!!

the af600s (older a51 model, I own 3 of them) are no longer for sale but the new sgs160 seem to have similar spectrum and I trust that they give better results per watt than the older af600s.

It's a no-brainer; Area 51-SGS160!

I own 3 and they run cool.
The DS100 would be too small, so you would need to use 2 of them. They would work great, but would cost a little more and run a little warmer. I have 2 DS200s that I've used over a 2'x4' with great results.
The coverage for the Hans is less than the A51.

For the same amount of cash id be able to get 2 of the hans panels and run one per plant. Hans got like 6oz off 2 panels and SOG. I havent seen anything that proves the a51 CANT do this well, but i also havent seen one used in such a small space with minimal vent.
