ductstat / fuse / AC question

been running a 5000 btu window unit outside my cab with the cool air ducted into the chambers in my cab. the tstat on that thing sucks ass. i ran it into the cab thinking it would turn off and on by the internal temp vs the outside temp. it will go from 70 to 85 before it turns on. and sometimes with the lights off it will turn on and get colder than it should. I thought i would try a ductstat plug in tstat used for various temp controlls mostly fans tho. it is rated for 125VAC and 5 Amps fused. the AC unit is rated at 4.8 Amps. the compressor turned on and it blew the fuse right away. U think it is a bad fuse or should i try to find one that fits that is like a 6 or 7 amp. i really dont think it is running at a constant 5+ amps probably just when the compressor kicks on. thanks!
