hey i just started growing and i have a very very basic dwc system, and a small container with soil. my babies in the soil are doing beautiful, at 2.5 weeks theyre 8" tall with thick strong stocks. and i also have 3 in my dwc system that i got from my grandpa (they were scrawny and starting to die). 2 of them are doing fine and one is struggling (i accidently ripped its roots out) but its still standing tall. i am currently using miracle grow (for both soil and hydro nutrients, which i know i shouldnt) in about 2 weeks im going to set up an aero/fog system (soon as i get a pump and some sprayers) and i was just wondering what is the best and cheapest nutrient solution for my hydro??? can i use the same for dwc and aero??? and do i NEED a expensive light bulb, i have 2 florecents (one for each setup) and they seem to be doing fine? i hear a good solution is 20-20-20 but i never see any, thanks for all help

As long as the nutrient solution is at a proper pH and concentration you can use it in both aero and DWC systems. In fact you could run a recirculating DWC with aeroponics as well using the same reservoir.

They'll be fine. Watch your leaves for signs of problems. Many strains just have some red stems for leaves while the rest of the stalk remains green.

Oh, BTW, that miracle gro in hydro works if you can supplement it with a nitrate source. Wherever you bought miracle gro, see if you can find florikan dynamite. use it instead of the Miracle gro in the hydro system, just grid it up and use 1/8 teaspoon per gallon for the starting growth.

Most of the nitrogen content in MG nutes is ammonia and urea based, they don't work directly in a hydroponics system without bacteria to help proces that stuff ad fix it into nitrates.

Go to the store, read the Guaranteed Analysis on the containers/boxes. Under the nitrogen it'll list ammonia, urea, and nitrate, and the nitrogen contents are usually listed first. Nitrate is what works in hydro. For example, the dynamite is 13-13-13, (nitrogen phosphorous potassium) and half of that nitrogen is nitrate so for a hydro system the rough figure is 6.5-13-13 (works fine for a tomato plant and basil plant so far!) and the rest of the stuff in the nutes is already water-soluble so no need to correct for that. You might wish to supplement it to make it more complete, however.

your babies are still babies and really shouldn';t be getting nutes until they have about 6 nodes or they're three weeks old, whichever comes first.

and yes, you can clone a clone and make them into mothers.

i also had the same problem with red viens going up the stem this could be cause by a certain type of mold that grows near roots that has a redish brown tint to is. it caused by moisture, warmth and lack of oxygen to/ in medium. this condition can be reversed before red streaks make it to buds with certain products you can get at a hydroponics store to remove or block mold production. if red streaks make it to the buds smoking these buds can cause lung infections as well as not taste good and arent good for you.

That sounds a little too high of a solution for small plants. That's almost flwoering-strength nutes, there.
