Just getting my setup going.

Going to run 1-1000w hps in a cool tube over 2x100qt igloo coolers. Thinking Ill SCROG and see what I can get. Cant wait to get the clones and go! Ill start getting pics once I start putting the walls up for the new room :D

not sure how many plants ill be able to fit though.

what do people normally do for the lids to the coolers? do you cut the lid or do you make a new lid all together? the ones i have have a easy access hatch on one end, so I will only be able to fit 2-3 5" pots. trying to keep them 1' apart.
Remove the lid and store away for safe keeping

Take the screws out and put them back in the cooler so you wont lose them

3/4 inch thick residential home insulation sheathing. I used 3 layers thick

Cut for equal fit

I wrapped with duct tape to hold them together while I cut out the holes.
Notice the chunk on the left side. this is to access the rez and check water and nutes.

Nice, Shiny & Insulated now

You can see part of my drain on the left side

Notice the extra square of foil. This is to cover the gap between the chunk I cut out so light doesn't get thru the gap. The chunk is for me to be able to access the water to add nutes or check ph and so forth

I would say to put 3-4 plants in there to veg with and only flower 2 plants per cooler at the most. 1 plant is preferred if the roots are massive.
Make sure they are the same strain or at least the same flowering time per plant.

If u click on the roots pic in my signature there's a real good pictorial in there that runs down the basics of dwc growing and gives a good idea on how to feed as well. Ph is key tho u wanna make sure u keep it dialed in once daily at 5.8 the rest works itself out. That's all expelained in the thread as well.

thanks man! Ill be hitting up the depot tomorrow for building materials! I think Ill pick up enough to run both the 100 and the 150. Any particular reason why only 2 in Flower at a time? Amount of roots? 3" or 5" pots?

Been trying to find a good air pump and stones to use as well. I found this,

http://www.thepondoutlet.com/home/tpo/page_9615_236/pondair_aeration_systems_by_pond_logic.html

Not sure if thats over kill or what though.

I also found these instead of stones, http://www.thepondoutlet.com/home/tpo/page_7850_236/fine_bubble_aeration_ring.html . I saw some other ones in a thread I was reading but cant recall what they were called.

Recommendations? I would like an adjustable speed pump so I can get things fine tuned in the long run.

I havent seen your setup, what is the pump used for? I have seen people ox-ing the water but havent read anything about pushing water around? Do you have a external res?

yes yes im a newb! haha. Engineer by trade ;) I think thats why this is so interesting to me, so many methods and ways to build this up. Cant wait to get parts on order! I just started thinking about if I should run a 1000 or just a 600. I dont want to buy 2 lights for veg/flower. I would rather just run 1 light and swap MH and HPS bulbs. The bulbs will be in a cooltube. Room is 9x6x8

What's up DWC Grow club? I have a question for you....I've had a DWC bucket going next to my soil grow for about 2 months now, and have yet to by a PH pen or thermometer until today. I've used PH drops to ph everytime I do a res change, so I havn't been completely in the dark, but I havn't even really considered water temps since the start. I checked it today and it was around 82....my question is what can happen with high water temps, other than root rot? My Roots are healthy, and have been healthy the whole grow. If it's something I need to worry about, would it be safe to throw an ice cube or 2 in there a few times a day to help drop the temps?

Hey Psych only thing I can tell u is that harmfull bacteria The ones that cause root rot and slime etc. Are supposed to be more able to breed and Colonize and cause problems in higher temps. And apparantely our plants are able to use more of the nutrients in lower temps. I don't know what nutrients its something to research that is for sure. But I also just heard that plants are more able to use calcium at higher temps. Idk these r questions peeps are doing studies on rite now and its going to be interesting what they find.
I can tell u that maybe 82 is pushing it. On there worst days my res temps get into the real high 70s touching 80 in the past but sit more closer to 75 on the average. Never had any problems with these temps no slime rot nothing and. Always chopped sticky dank bud covered in trichs.
What u can do to combat the bad bacteria is add beneficial bacteria in the form of mycos and rhizos not only does it combat the bad bacteria but it also helps promote and stimulate root growth which in turn only adds to more yield at chopping time. I'm useing great white rite now but there are many I've seen all the major companies have there own versions but a good non expensive one I've seen is OM.
Far as keepin ur water cool. I've used frozen water bottles. In the past no problem u just don't want to allow the ice to sit on ur roots or some plants roots will singe or u will see wrinkles in the leaves where the ice was. On the roots etc.. What I've been doing to counteract the high temps lately is refrigerating my topoff water and or adding ice to it to bring the top off water temps down before I top my buckets off this is working real well especially in flower considering some plants are drinkin a couple gallons a day its a no brainer the water doesn't have time to sit and heat up lol.
Anyway hope that helps I'm sure there's also a lot of others that can add some things here that's just my take on it all. I am by far not pro and the more I learn. I realize I don't know crap so I'm not even gonna try to get into the scientificals of it all until I get a better understand. Id like to hear others input on the situation as well I'm always learning its alwayz good to have somethin else to think about.
Peace man hope that helped

I wanna get in on this, but since my neighbors know have I broken the rules or do they get grandfathered in?

Btw I make a weekly vid every wednesday of my DWC grow that gets uploaded to youtube, then it gets journaled here.

Had to pull two males a couple days ago but I still have two females that have a couple months left.
