I'm not a DWC grower but I would imagine it doesn't matter, the pepples are just to support the cube, You have roots so you're doing it right.

if using the pebbles the put it at the bottom. any movement of those rocks will shred new roots.

i think you should put a layer of hydroton (about 1/2 inch) and put your water level so theres a little bit of bubbles splashing water through the hydroton, this is because you dont want the rockwool to be saturated wet every single moment because that will cause ph issues you want the bubbles to keep it moist.

You really don't need any medium! Just for the heck of it, try running a couple plants with a neoprene collar! I run aero with collars in the net pot and it works perfect:)

Hey JPH,Ive grown in hydroton before, you are doing ok,just drop those babies in your system and letem rock. They look like they are doing ok so if you do anything to them, you would be holding them back.Slipem into your system and letem go.They will be fine just like they are.Oh and keep the pics coming how they are growing.
Once the roots make it into the solution the rockwool is not needed.I am currently doing dwc without any media, just foam collars and open eneded net pots.I got tired of cleaning and buying and replacing media,so I decided to go medialess.Everything I am doing now is with NO media just my foam collars.I clone with collars and flower with collars, less clean up and less waste to deal with,oh wait there is no waste except for water changes and that goes into the yard for trees and such.About the only thing I have to buy is my nutes and replacement hardware.
Best of Luck to ya.

If ya grow from seed, you can build a aero cloner, very simply!! I start my seeds in paper towels and put them in zip locks and hang them so the roots grow down to between 1 1/2-2 inches and then put them into the collars!

I ALWAYS put a single layer of hydroton below my rapid rooters as I keep my water level at the bottom or bit above net pot at all times during plant life.

Just bury it after that.

never had any probs shredding roots, i put a few layers of pebbles at bottom to jack the rock wool near level with the top then fill the gaps with more pebbles, took my plants out most days n never had any probs

ok update the older one just like is taking a crap on me idk whats wrong with it thats why i was asking about where the rockwool goes to see if i fucked up i also took 2 babys and put hydroton under the rockwool and have been watering them by hand with same nuts in the tub 1 has roots out the bottom now and they same growing better then the ones with the rockwool strait on on bottom the ph is 6.0 temp 70 i added some stronger nuts 1 gal of them but instant of having 1 tsp of each nut i put 2 the oldest plant seems to be growing a little better but its day 2 so can really see much changing.... do i ever need to cvhange out my water in my dwc or just keep topping it off?? it is a 30 gal that i keep around 20 gals in it

IMG_20121008_232147.jpgthis pick was right after i topped it and then after i took the pick i cut off the really yellow leave so if it was something bad it wouldnt spreed

I'm almost where you are, and on my first grow as well! I had my main tap root growing out of my 1 inch rockwool cube and kind of panicked, put that cube into a three inch cube and am going to let it get bigger.

Once I get roots out of the three inch cube and the plants a little bigger I'm going to put the little lady in my five inch net pot with some hydroton below and around it, plate off the top so I have no light issues with my res and hope for the best from there!

I'll kee p an eye on your post and help with any details I can as I go. Main thing seems to be to plan ahead and give your ladies time and care. Just let them do what comes naturally! Goodluck to you!

Damn you Google, making me bump super old threads. Sorry everyone, nothing to see here >.>
