DWC to coco

Trying to switch to,coco in smart pots.

Do you need to mix anything with the coco?

Some setups ive seen have what looks like perlite added.

Another question is feed levels. Do they require,more or less compared to dwc?

Basiczlly just looking for something easier.

I have a flood and drain table I can use instead of checking each bucket maintenance would only be needed on one central res and would cut dowb on the amount,of time I need to tend to my plants.

Also just looking for a change as ive been doing dwc for 5 years now.

I've had good luck with coco. There are a few ways you can do it. You can mix all the nutes in with the coco and just water with plain RO (adding nutes if/when necessary). Or you can just use coco and water with nutes every time. There are some really good soilless mixes out on the web. Start with something like coco, perlite, EWC, bone & blood meal, dolomite lime. Search these forums, you'll find all the info you need.

i love my dtw auto feed hempy buckets. they sit in my old rdwc totes so they have a drain, set the ph/ec and go out of town for a week or more and come back and it's the same as when you left. can't be overwatered either with the hempy.

unchain yourself from the buckets!

i didn't like coco for 2 reasons: it can build up excess salts if overwatered and if the coco dries out you get the same problems. i probably didn't give it enough time to work out the kinks but i wasn't pleased that my medium was giving me troubles.

I would add at least 50% perlite, i do about 80%. It gives you more forgiveness in that it wont hold nearly the amount of water or salts that just coco does. Also you can feed way more often. I tried a side by side with my coco/perlite mix and it was way faster growing than a coco/hydroton mix.

I run 60% perlite 40%coco in pot sat on a flood n drain table. I use hydro nutes and recirculate. Clean res once every 7 days. Not had any problems.

Dude if you want to learn coco, spend a couple days watching VaderOG on youtube, you will learn everything you need to know. He also (imo) has set the standard for grow videos over the years.

Also if you mix anything with coco (other than a small amount of lets say worm castings or other similar amendments), you lose a lot of the advantage that coco offers, namely that you don't need to let it dry out as good quality coco will hold the perfect amount of oxygen and will still give you the high growth rate of hydroponics.
