DWC with soil.. can it work?

Hi everyone, I have the large net pots that fit into a bucket and are often used for bucket DWC applications. I am a organic soil guy and I usually add all of my amendments at transplant and flower in these pots running a water only (just add water) system and I like primarily because there is very little that can go wrong and I can easily leave it for many days at a time without concerns about ph, ppm, etc.

But How does this apply to you you may ask?
Well, I have been looking into self irrigating planters and wick systems to make my job even easier, and I am considering ehat would happen if I put a lighter soil mix in the pot and threw it in a bucket with an airstone and some water possibly with a low ppm of some organic nutes.

I could dump out the water weekly, and water by hand or run a drip system for the soil if/when the roots can't wick the water up out of the res yet, but the fizz of water from the bubbles could wet the soil just enough to not have to do anything, and that is the goal. Healthy plants with low maintenance.

My reasoning is based in experience with no drain beds, DWC and that in nature the taproots extend to the water table while the roots in topsoil do most of the feeding.

I have been trying to poke a hole in the theory of my hybrid design and also find someone who has done this before or something similar, because I can't.

No haters,
Thank you,
one fish

Sorry to necro a thread. I did not think anyone would like it if I made a new thread based on this topic. So here are my questions. I have a 4 gallon (12 inch round) terracotta pot with a plant in it. I am wanting to place this pot into a 5 gallon bucket with water and a bubbler at the bottom, to allow the roots to grow through the drain hole into the water. Thus eliminating any "space" issues with the roots. Reason being in this. I want to add 5 more plants to the pot, to make a twisted stem (multiple stems grown around each other in a twist) I know I need a hell of alot more than this terra cotta pot for this. Thus why I want to go this route. What nutes can I use in the water, and can I use just straight water?, no nutes in the water. Only when I top feed. Also sorry for the long paragraph. I just want to be 100% sure everyone knows what I am asking, and why. Thank you for any answers. This is my first indoor grow trying something different. I have grown in straight soil before.

I would drill more drain holes in your pot with 5 plants but that's just me..
No str8 water you need nutes, I use House & Garden Aqua Flakes A & B and then H2O2 high concentrated
hydrogen peroxide to keep you rez in check(a lot goes along way). Read up on DWC and I highly suggest to view on youtube
HYGROHYBRID DWC series of videos. he's now longer doing them for free but a lot of good basic's to DWC ... DUDE kills it..

Ok thank you. I have drilled 4, 1 inch holes along with the existing hole in the center. I also have fox farm nutes from my soil grow i grew a couple months ago. I have added the recommended amount of "Grow Big" to my water. I also added some hydrogen peroxide to the water (about 1 tablespoon per gallon). I hope this works as well as I am hoping.
