Early Outdoor Season (AK-49 + Cold Frame)

First off I would like to say hello, I have been off this forum for about 4 years but it is nice to be back. Now for a little bit about myself, I have grown indoors for over 5 years but had to quit do to my working circumstances. But alas I have grown tired of paying for green that I know is not as good as I could of grown myself. I am unable to grow indoors anymore after about the 3 week pt (10 inch) so I found myself wondering what options do I have??

Here is what I came up with, it is not ideal and more of curiosity then anything. Saying that I will still be giving it my all to completion one way or the other. I was with a gardening buddy of mine and he was constructing what is called a Cold Frame so he can start his vegetables earlier this season. This made me think if it can work for tomatoes why not mary jane?

So my plan is simple, construct a cold frame and flower my Automatic AK-49 out doors in MARCH!! While this may sound crazy to some I have put quite a bit of research and thought into this endeavor. The whole basic premise of this idea is that the cold frame will provide enough warmth for the AK to survive the chilly nights, and be able to flower outdoors under sunlight for a much earlier harvest. The Cold Frame will also provide protection from animals, weather, other weeds, and the Frost.

Step 1. Germinate and bring the Auto AK-49 to seedling stage

Step 2. Construct Cold Frame
I have obtained a few smaller windows (2'x3') from a neighbor who was replacing his. I drew up a blueprint for the box I will build to support them.

The size of the box I will use will be 2'x3'x1.5' for it needs to be the same size as the window. The Price per box to build is about $35 for the first one and $14 for the next 2. So pretty cheap to be honest! I will post pictures of assembly and finished product in the next couple when i complete it. After it is fully assembled you can install a Thermatic Vent in the box so if temps reach over 70 degress it will open so your plants dont burn on hot days.

Step 3. Install Cold Frame/pots in ground
While this sounds straightforward, and it could be, I decided to add an extra twist or two. First of I will be digging a 2' hole underneath my box, and this serves a two-fold purpose. First the soil composition at my site is mostly clay so the lady will have to be in pots of good soil and will need the room for this. Second it will take 6" off the height of the box leaving it even more stealthy in a field of my choosing. Here is a diagram of how i will have the hole set up.

Place box over top of hole and used soil content you dug up to insulate sides and crack. Also helps make it look more roundish and less man made.

Step 4. Harvest (63 days after seed sprouts) :)

Key details : Plants will be in 3 gallon containers (4 per box).
Auto Ak-49 grows to a max of 2.5' tall which will easily fit in the box fully mature(maybe a little crammed with 4)
Plants will be raised inside for the first 3 weeks then be hardened off for another week before being put in box.
Box will be in field within walking distance from my house surround by small shrubs and tall prairie grass.
Box Will receive direct sun for the entire day since there are no trees around.

I have a few concerns about the weather as well which will be my major wild card and limiting factor. Here the average temperature window for march 10th onwards is 40F-80F With little chances of frost overnight.

Any suggestions, questions, and all concerns are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks for all those that took the time to read.
