What age should we start to see signs? I am 26 days in and I have a really hard time seeing close enough to determine if I'm looking at new leaf growth or the beginning of pre-flower... am I too early?

Depends on different factors but they will prob show soon. Look for little hairs (pistils) indicating females.

Once you switch your plant to 12/12 and initiate flowering, you should start seeing signs in a week or 3 depending on if you have an 8 week flowering or 12 week flowering plant.
