electric company

Good day all

Ok, so i know many have been hearing this saying about the electric company having this so called "limit" of watts you can use before you become put on their radar, and potentially leading up to po-po getting tipped off etc....

Can ANYONE actually say they know someone who was caught because of this very reason? I need to know if this is just a myth, or really true.

I've tried taking the 'safe than sorry route', by looking at the average watts being used by friends and such, within my county to try and stay within normal wattage usage....but I'm on the verge of saying fuck it, because I know I will need more light. Its been racking my brain :wall:

I appreciate any feedback on this. Thanx.

This is all just my two cents so take it for what its worth but i'd say that wattage used is less of a identifying factor than time and duration. Pools add hundreds of dollars in Electricity. A solid gaming computer has a 1000 watt power supply. It's when your electrical use has jumped up 10k the last few months and it's precise 12 hour bursts every day that it becomes obvious. All that being said said the electric companies generally don't give a shit. Just keep your mouth shut, a huge percentage of problems come from letting others in on what your doing, helpers, showing off to friends/family, etc. For me personally being in a non friendly state, my future number is probably around 4k for everything max. But that's as much worrying about my electric bill than getting in trouble for it.

Was going to say the same as both above.
More money for them so why would they give a monkeys.
And also like the above, people with pools, fish ponds, out side lighting, big TVs Ect
If your that bothered try use less in other ways like switching off plugs and not turning lights on, energy saving bulbs around the house. It's all going to help.
I pay mine by the meter and since I've got the 600hps on the go my electrics have near enough doubled... Ha

We had 24 lights at one spot a few years ago. We blew the transformer up. These were pretty big properties, but there were three houses on this transformer. Power was down for probably about 4-5hours. In the summertime too, very early morning. Anyways, after they replaced the transformer(with a larger one), dude from the power company here(pg&e) comes to the house and said that if someone is going to start using the amount of power that we were, that's it's usually a good idea to call them and tell them about it first. :-D He said we'll be all good now though. It wasn't really that big of a deal. I was sort of sketched out for a minute though.
This is in California

I had my home service upgraded to 150A. Power company wants people to call them before fucking with high amp shit and they want to be paid for the power delivered. They do NOT want to be de facto spies for law enforcement!

What are you planing on using and how many??
I want to use 4x1000w DE HPS, 1x315w cmh, and about 5 t5s. Plus the pumps fans etc for my flood and drain. I'm not too worried about anything else except the lights. In total its about 4000w 12hrs a day, and the 315w cmh and t5s 24/7.

Yes your right about that. Ppl have many things in their homes that use a lot of electricity. But most of those things only run for a period of time. If you had 4k running 12 hours everyday, I know it would be a BIG difference than other appliances in the home. And yes, im already planning to use way less electricity in my home. I'm even thinking of using a generator for the home appliances. Even then, I calculated my monthly watt to be over 1500kwh.

Hmm, that's interesting info....I'm on the east coast though. NY. So the regulations might be a little different. I appreciate your input

I was thinking I should move into a new home, and start immediately, so my power consumption will start like that, and it won't look suspicious.... But like you've said, the time and duration (as in 12 he's on and off) is what I'm mainly worried about.

Yes and your absolutely right. The main thing is to trust none about your grow. I strongly agree.

if your using high ampage, think about when your using it. Also don't get a smart meter..... ever.
Yeah, I heard about those. I don't fully know what it is, but I got an idea from a little research. And I will definitely watch when I use Amps. Thanx for the advice.

just make sure lights out before bed time. The world (most of it) wakes at 6 and goes to bed at 12. So low consumption during those hours.

I you have a smart meter. Runs rooms on flip flop. Power being used 24/7 instead of 12/12.
Ok, so when one half of your room has lights on the other side is off, and vice versa. So it looks the same all thru the day. Very smart... So if I run 4k, I would flip flop 2k....its always great to have your input bro.

Hey, but a quick question....I know from previous threads you have a much larger watt consumption then I will....do you cover it up as a weilding place or some type of shop to mislead the actual purpose of that many watts? Or you just woke up one day and ran all those heavy watts? I know its a limit on info you can give out, and I understand, for security purposes. Whatever you can say will be greatly appreciated.

Ok so low consumption during the wake period right? Just making sure I'm reading this right...and Thanx, that's extremely useful information.
