Ok so i boght one of those dimmers but it doesnt do shit to slow down my fan. Its to loud and i need something to reduce the noise. I tried hooking it up every possible way, and the only thing it does it turn the fan on and off. Is there a special dimmer i need? Wtf?

I wouldn't use a dimmer on these fans at all...these fans aren't made to have there speed changed. No dimmer will work! There is another thread with noise reduction in it that has some good tips!

I actually hear dimmers are very noise reducing, i dont think it has to be made to be reducable because i have experimented with different v adapters with computer fans and found i could change the speed. I put the 15 volt on one and it was really ripping. Didnt last long though...a month maby...

but anyways any electricle can be played with different amounts of power, so whats up with my dimmer? Question remains.,

hey and whats that thread?

I found this thread don't know if it will help though:

As for fan noise...
Some things I've HEARD (I've never tried any of these) might do the trick:
1) Use straight duct work (not the easy to use bendy kind) less resistance is supposed to equal less noise
2) Use insulated duct work (absorb the noise)
3) Mount the fans using rubber grommets to reduce the vibration that is causing the noise
4) Mount the fan using bungie cords (same idea as number 3 - only more likely to reduce vibration and hence - noise)

Hey good pointers there, ill take them all into consideration. I have a Mettal file cabinet for a stealth grow and since the wall is so thin bungies would probably be best, because theres nothing i could really moun the metal ducting to, i guess i could mount that to a bungie,,,genius!! thats what ill do, haha just thought of that as i was speaking. Then all those other tips will come into play also, good thinking.

Question on dimmer remains, why doesnt my fan react to the speed reduction?

I am surprised the dimmer didn't work, are you sure there isn't something wrong with it. The store where I bought my fan had a dimmer that just plugged into the wall and then you plug the fan into it. I've seen them on the net at different stores the sell ventilation fans and filters too. About $20 I believe. It did a good job of quieting the fan down but of course it cut down on flow.

yeah my dimmer has two wires at the top, a black and green then one black at the bottom, i think its suppost to be a light dimmer so idk, it should still govern the electric flow.? Do you know where they would sell those, like what specific store?

Thanks for the tips, you guys are the greatest.
