i think supreme court justices should be voted on by the people
I fully agree, the way it's been going down with these last 2, there were many who didn't want the "wise latino" but it becomes political. If they vote no, they get grilled about not wanting a woman etc........so they show no balls. If we have a say we take that political pressure out of the mix, thus assuring that activist judges do not get in the door. I don't trust Nobama, and I especially don't trust his choices in people, as shown by who he has placed around him.

Abe, I am using the term "progressive" in the same context that the leftists are using it to describe themselves. Political terminology is fluid unfortunately. That is why the term "neocon" initially meant jewish leftists who embraced conservative principles and then somehow came to describe those who adhered to Bush 43's hawkish foreign policy.

And Nodrama, I completely disagree with the populace voting on Justices. Personally I would like to see the 17th amendment abolished as well and put the election of senators back into the state legislature.

why don't we just get rid of voting all together and Obama can be king and we will be the serfs/slaves who will toil under him for his pleasure. Sounds Utopian doesn't it?

If you say so. Doesn't sound like Utopia to me, but to each their own I guess.

i only want judges that are old, white, and male and resemble the image most people have of god (sitting on the cloud with his white beard and robe). that's the only justice i want.

you're welcome.

I just want ones who understand the Constitution and will ensure it is followed the way it was intended. Its not that hard to understand.

Do you think she would make a good justice? Why or why not?
No, because she is a policy wonk...

She has never been a main line judge and I think she lacks experience in constitutional law.

However, due to the justice she is replacing and the fact that Barry isnt going to appoint someone less left than she is it really is a moot point.

*2

Which is why judges should not be voted on like a popularity contest. They should understand constitutional law and act as the balance when the congress and/or president over reach their authority.

I see your point, there is enough dumb out there to continually dupe themselves into voting for Morons.

IMO, the practice of voting for judges and sheriffs in certain jurisdictions is one of the most fucked up aspects of our legal/political system...
