I don't think this is about his coushy job....its about the fact that the harper gov...just won't listen to its scientists who are telling them...if you don't do something about carbon emissions...now...there won't be a later...

Don't feel bad for the guy.
The only thing better in life than a cushy government job is getting put on leave with pay from said job.
Never quite understood the idea behind discipline that involves the person getting full pay to not work.
What the hell do I know tho
He's a research scientist; I'd bet my last dollar he's in it for the work, not the (pathetic) salary.

In a roundabout way however, he's calling attention to the subject of his research... and in a much more direct way, he's calling out politicians for meddling with science and scientists and holding such reprehensible behavior up to much needed public scrutiny.

It's too bad that whistle blowers are treated so badly on both sides of the 49th... society needs them and owes each and every one a debt of thanks... and to be fair, a stipend for doing the right thing with so many potential victims on the line.

And it's more about the ability of politicians to abuse scientists and their work for political gain- so we the People need to ensure that an end is put to the practice.

Scientists are the eyes of civilization; they see into the future and warn us about the dangers. Politicians need to listen to them, just like the rest of us. The idea that it's acceptable to muzzle informed scientific dissent is quite simply inimical to the long term survival of that civilization.

Don't believe me? Go ask a Babylonian, or a Thracian, or an Easter Islander. Assuming you can find one, of course...

I agree scientists are important I wasn't implying that we don't need them. I was more commenting on the fact that suspension with pay isn't really an act of discipline if anything it gave him more free time to work on his next tune.

My eldest kid is a scientist....very smart and I would def take her word on anything
science related...compared to any drivel out of the mouth of a politician...
they are liars...
That's all but self evident. Therefore, removing the power of politicians to muzzle or threaten scientific opinion is definitely a GREATER GOOD than keeping those who would silence them in power.

So I guess freedom of speech or opinion has no meaning anymore..... Fuckin hitler sorry harpshit sorry Harper tool:bigjoint:
Be very careful with this one. I am no fan of the Cons at all but the last thing you want is to have the public service become politicized to that point. I am ex military and we also had rules that we had to live by that said we could not act in a political manner while in uniform or employed as soldiers. There are reasons for these rules, which the liberals enacted a long time ago, it is to ensure that you get the same level of service from the public service no matter what party is in power. It is disheartening to see this when it is against the cons, yes, but what if it was a devout christian conservative serving in the bureaucracy that was doing something similar against the NDP or liberals because he hated marijuana reforms? Heck, take it a bit further and you have a county clerk that refuses to enforce the law passed by the democrats and enforced by the supreme court about marrying gays.

Sometimes these laws and rules exist for a reason, this guy can always quit and then go signing but doing it while a public servant is verbotten. He knows that very well too.

Catchy song though.

Have to disagree with some of that in, if you work at any company and don't use any resources that said company uses or any time from your job.... if done all on your own.... and said song is say made in satire. ... Harper is not his boss in reality his boss is probably close to his actual office
That being said .... join the military and try face booking some shitty comments and well hope they don't find out lol
But public sector is more relaxed.... I could see if the song had lyrics like Harper kills babies or something
But it don't
How many songs could.military members make about housing and support for their families and themselves after deployment
I personally didn't think he deserved to be sent home with pay... he should have went to work with pay lol
