Ethos Collective "Apex"..........

Probably my last Ethos grow, I've been thinking about moving on to another breeder. No particular reason so don't ask why, just time for a change. MAYBE......

Apex is recently released, "Lilac Diesel #10 X Mandarin Cookies"............I would say there are more positive threads on the Mandarin Cookies than any other Ethos strain I've seen- so I thought I'd give it a go. It's stated THC at 24%-28% with total cannabinoids at 30+%, yield is BEAST MODE, and done by 9 weeks.

I didn't really pay much attention to the details but the more I read it, the more I have the feeling it'a a tall, spindly grower, much like some of the diesels I've done. Plenty of sativa in it too, so it's time to consider a different type of grow. As well as kushes do in the room, I'm not really set up for these kinds of plants- it would make for a difficult grow I'm guessing. I went back and found this, something I remember from a few years ago:

https://www.thcfarmer.com/community/resources/how-to-lst-low-stress-training.252/

This might be the perfect strain for this type of grow. I'll have to think about how to support everything, If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'm open to it. I'll have 2 weeks to figure it out. Also, I think I've seem similar type of systems for sale too.........

Not much really going on......all have sprouted by the paper towel method- then transplanted into the pots but still waiting for 3-4 of them to break thru the soil. My new lights came today so they'll be switched over tomorrow. Other than that, quiet here.

Sorry, new bulbs- the lights are the same old shades I've been using for over 10 years now- some G.H. stuff. I use iPower bulbs, only $23-$24 each- but switch them out every 2 grows.

My plan is to put in a single stake towards the middle of the pot, and put a tomato cage towards the perimeter. I'll grow the plants straight upwards, and when they reach the top of the cage- circle the main stalk around the top ring of the cage. I'll start to flower when the very top completes the full circle. This strain is done at 9 weeks, not 10 like most of the other things I've done- so I probably have an additional week towards veg if I need it. This process will be very time consuming at the beginning, at least until flowering starts. So, I'm going to let my pic's tell the story- don't expect any detailed explanation or much conversing with this grow- at least the first month or two. I'll still be happy to answer questions, if they arise.

Starting NOW.

8 days in veg, 100% sprout and they all seem robust. You've all seen baby plants, no need to show pic's just yet. Nothing else to report.....

Hi S, hope alls well in the garden, am i right in thinking the difference between Apex f1 & r1 is that the r1's lemon pheno is sativa leaning. I'm holding off buying OGDLUX bx3 until your harvest. It'll be either of those for my next ethos buy.

3 weeks into flowering, a bit surprised so far. By Ethos description, I expected a taller and branchy plant- that's why i was going to add the tomato cages early on. Well, as you can see- they are everything but that. Short, compact, and slow to grow so far. I even added new bulbs this grow, to help them out. So, no cages for now- I'll go another week and then decide how to proceed. Well, RIU isn't letting me load any pic's, it says try again later so I'll post the pic later on tonight.

I also wanted to mention people's comments about the Chem OG, from my last grow. I've described the strain as a spacey sativa, and that still holds true. Smells and tastes great, even thru the smoking/vaping process. Everyone who commented on the strain thought it was excellent, they are more easily pleased than me though. I wish it was a bit stronger overall, and probably didn't get near the 30% THC that was advertised. Still though, well worth a grow for those looking for something like that. I pretty much sold thru it rather quickly, with many friends coming back a few times- that says something in itself I guess.

I also got a notice yesterday that SeedsHereNow is selling 3 pre-released strains (Fems), two of which I believe are hybrids made with the Mandarin Cookies. So you know...............

So there's the room at 3 weeks. I've since rearranged it entirely- tallest plants to the back, shortest to the center for more light.

Tonight I did some further searching into both parents:

1. Lilac Diesel- (SLH X Forbidden Fruit) X NYC Cherry Pie X Citral Glue
THC 25% with 27-30% total cannabinoids
Heavy yield, done in 9 weeks
Not feminized
Strong, aggressive plant with heavy branches
large buds, both spongy and solid

2. Mandarine Cookies- Forum Cut Cookies X Mandarin Sunset
THC 25%, total cannabinoids 30%
High yield, done in 55-70 days
Feminized
Uniform plants
Smelly, mainly of orange and pine

So here's what you get:

Apex R1
THC 24-28% with 30+% Cannabinoids
Beast mode yield, done in 9 weeks
Feminized
Vigorous but easy to manipulate
Classic stoner effects- clear and powerful, leans to sativa side
Great flavor and smell- Candied lilac, berries, lemon cake, grapefruit, spices and gassy chem

BUT, it still all comes down to pheno selection of the parents.

So I made the decision today to not tomato cage the room......thing just aren't tall enough to make it feasible. Most of the plants have stayed rather short in veg, I'm guessing the breeder picked a shorter Mandarin Cookies shorter pheno, and it's stayed on thru this hybrid. Maybe 25% of the plants are a bit taller- but most of my other Ethos stuff has been taller at this point. So, I'll stake the back two rows of plants cause it's difficult to get back to them- and make more decisions as flowering takes hold. I'll switch over on Saturday night. Otherwise, a pleasure to grow, not much smell at this point and life goes on.

This will be my last Ethos grow- at least for a while. I want a strong indica for next time and I think I've found it. Ethos concentrates on sativa's and sativa hybrids, and you probably won't get a great indica from them. I keep getting calls for a knock-me-down indica, and I think I've found one. I'll release the name when this grow gets close to finishing.

Back on Saturday at 1 week done in flowering..........

I'm sitting here trying to guess a breeder or strain...? But the US has so many of both I won't start a guessing game.
