EXTRA GLASS LOSS OR GAIN LUMENS

my 600watthps has a cover with glass lid ive now added an extra glass but lower down on a shelf will i lose intensity due to it traveling thruogh 2 peices

Yes you will also lose out on UV the best light for your plants are open hoods but I would only have open hoods if you can controlle the temp in your room

You lose something like 5% for every piece of glass the light passes through. And yes, the bulb counts as one also. So you now have 3 layers. If you have to air cool then you have to do what you have to do. Its not much of a loss but it does take away from bulb performance.

Bare bulbs are so much better that it's worth reducing your heat signature to remove the excess glazing.

I heard that 5% is the absolute least the glass will impact your light output; not only does it cut some spectra more than others, but the moment it gets dusty your lumen loss will skyrocket.

@ttystikk is right. The glass alone is one thing but if you don't keep the glass clean your output suffers considerably more.

I run an air cooled hood without the glass. My homie suggested I take it off , I took it off. My setup is as simple as it gets ,it's dumb simple. But it works well. Canopy stays between 76 and 78 root zone stays between 71 and 74 . I just gotta keep my house at 78.. In the winter I won't need to do that.

yes but it means i can get the tops upto 8 inchs closer my tops are now 12 inch from tops an cool as a breeze so wouldnt i be making that up in proximity i gain
