Fallow: The Art of Organic Soil

Traditional organic soil techniques, especially the basic ones, seem to fade over time against the rise of high technology organic derived products we all embrace in our quest for a respectable grow.

Hi, I'm Ernst from Turlock California and I have maintained a soil since 2001 I do believe.

I've followed the writings of many an organic gardener from grow site to grow site and I have tried my hand at producing content.

I maintain a 4x4x3 planter bed-cab system of my own design and this year is a fallow year after 18 months of no till experimentation.

The No till results are "Excellent" growth and yes all cycles function but also white flies of an advanced kind know more about dirt than I for sure.
I find this fallow with till cycle a blessing after the white flies but I learned oh so much about white flies. They know how to hedge their bets.

So I see that there isn't a thread on the fallow and till cycle of organic soil in here and that happens to be my current state-of-the-garden; Medical California Legal garden that is.

So, I can write for an hour but I will not meet anyone. I open the thread.

I understand how Our Culture here at Roll It Up favors us to not be real people.
We can pretend to be someone and as young or insecure we find anonymity a safe and protective blanket we wrap ourselves in.

That is the general idea. It also is a topic I am the first to cover in this forum.

ernst,im chuck....if a plot is fallow does it recoupe anything by skipping a year... i love subcools just add water soilmix,but scared to try it. now im using perlite 75%-vermiculite 25% in a hempy bucket....with gh three part nutes added.you have my attention

Be the Change!

For me to get satisfaction out of my work here I want to have social interaction. There is nothing satisfying about pretending to be a real person.
So far as an example of what intellectual input has been contributed here prove the need for a move towards mature conversation.
Not every 50+ year old wants to read the ramblings of stoned teenagers who respond to issues above their mental level with off topic arguments and Trolling.
I believe the more we act grown up and look to be part of the legalization efforts that we will have more mature pro-legalization people here.
So this thread is about my soil box. We should write about what we know and I know my soil of 10+ years.

I'll share my experiences and I hope to do a photo run with a green manure cycle.

Fallow, as I understand the general term is to "rest" your soil. To let the soil recharge and we can do that too even though we have taken the organic simple to the semi-organic industrial with our quest for commercial viability in growing cannabis.

We can look at Cannabis and the soil as things we control and manipulate but do we know enough about living with nature? Do we see Cannabis as a life form and respect and honor it?
And the soil, we buy product that maximize growth and produce commercially constant produce but, there is the natural side.

The last years that Charles Darwin spent writing was about organic soil. Charles Darwin's Works
Also good to point out when we talk about the complete realm of Organic Soil is the work Darwin did on the concept of " Root Brain. "
I do believe we fail to see Cannabis as a living and thinking being most of the time.
If we wish to improve our Organic Gardening experience and skills then we need more than to know what products to buy to be "Organic."

Letting our soil go fallow is part of the concept of crop rotation. It is nature's way where growing mono-crops are not the natural norm. It is a way to build-up your soil naturally.
We can include re-composting the soil in that process as well.

The Fallow cycle in our home garden's soil is a time to add materials and let nature work on them so that we recharge the soil so that the soil is productive without the use of chemicals or highly enriched and specialized organic products.
You can grow fantastic plants using simple materials like rice and coffee for example.
You can keep the same soil for 10 or more years and have productive grows each time.
So friends, I have a show and tell. I will start shortly with some photos.
In the mean time have a read about Darwin and Crop rotations.

darwin was too smart.. always wanted to know why,and what if...
had no idea that worms bring up soil,and it layers its self back down.. so in thought, with worms bringing up soil and depositing it, it will layer its self.. so if we skip a year then the worms will rotate our soil?? jumping the gun i know..... ill keep reading.. i work a 6 a.m. to 230 p.m. shift in the construction field. H.V.A.C. i install complete systems in commercial applications. i ran my own crew of three before being laid off in jan. at new company now, but not as a supervisor. so dollar less but no headaches or hassle.. usually on in the evenings and weekends.. so much info in all these threads.. o.k. nough rambling,ill get back to my darwin book.... kinda feel like there will be a pop test or something

Some are legal and some are not. I am and have a tiny closet. Spend major tax dollars nd throw me in there if I am such a criminal for calling out the truth, and trying to provide myself with something that I could live a semi- stressless painless and healthier life, instead of taking handfulls of pills that otherwise make me worse off than I was before.

I am not a criminal, just a person who prefers BETTER MEDICINE, that WON"T KILL ME or MAKE ME HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS.

i am tired and now completely broke and hate paying for my medicine when i don't even know what it is like or if it has been jacked up by a rookie grower. I want to be able to grow my 2-3 small girls 100% organic and know exactly what is in it.

Yeah, I'm pretty testy, that is what they said when I worked for NASA years ago learning wonderful great things about science and the improvement of our planet through research and a GREENER way of life.

They loved me, they knew I liked my medicine, My work spoke for itself, and I had a job that didn't test me. I always told them I loved my herb. At anytime they could of fired me, but why, I was honest, and a reliable and a great worker.

i also recieved many AWARDS for my great work and skills, I was supervising multiple jobs with many people, also doing the job bidding, and most of the people were older and in the field longer than I, and I was promoted and given a HUGE RAISE. NASA approved of me and my work, and all the other scientists that I got to know and spend time with, some even toked up with me. Scientists wearing tie dyed shirts, shorts and berkenstocks, and a I.Q. higher than most people I know. Yeah this is a terrible medicine.
NASA thinks other wise, or why would they of let me and so many others worked there. Because there was nothing wrong with us JUST the CURRENT LAWS. We will eventually win this war for MJ and it's great MEDICINAL VALUE, in the mean time..........
