Family Flock of Frisian Female Fowl Take Flight

Hi everyone, it's HARVEST SEASON in the great outdoors up here in the northern Hemi. Rather than bore you with months of growth, I figured I'd cut to the chase and get to the fun parts.

I have a family of Frisian Ducks growing. For ease, I'll name them:
Darkwing Duck (In the ground, Seed)
Momma Duck (15 Gallon, Clone)
Sally (5 Gallon with more branches,Clone)
Mary (5 Gallon with fewer branches,Clone)
Dot (1 Gallon,Clone)

For Darkwing, I dug a 4x4x3 hole and amended the native soil per soil test recommendations.
The nutrient in my native soil wasn't enough to support healthy growth, and the soil was heavily compacted from years of being a lawn with kids and dogs. My soil pH wasn't good either, at 5.9.
I added a 5-10-10 and triple superphosphate for the fertilizer, as well as some Dolomitic lime to help with pH and add some additional Calcium and Magnesium, both of which were also deficient.

I broke the heavy clay native soil up with with a bunch of leaf mould(which itself was amended with some N guano) and let it sit for a month before planting. She was 2 weeks old at transplant.

She received a few toppings and a lot of bending and weighing down. Being on the North side of the house, she only got a max of 12 hours of direct sun in the middle of summer, and currently only gets about 5.

Here's Darkwing now!

And here's a few closeups.
This Bug is hugging the leaf of this bud like he owns it.

I think this looks like the hilt of a sword. Stuck in a rock hard nug? Who's the king?

Dragon Claw?

Well, Darkwing is just about ready to harvest, and since we've got a heavy rain on the way tonight, she's coming down this afternoon. The biggest buds. The rest will ride it out till perfection or first frost.

Alright, now for the rest of the family!

Momma got Greenfields in a 15 Gallon fiber pot. I fed with the whole Roots Organic line, though I didn't fully follow their schedule. I also hit her, and all the other clones, with mono-potassium phosphate about a week ago. They've all thrown new stigmas so there's that second bout of flowering. Nice.

Sally. Sally got supercropped every time she straightened up.

Mary. Mary got the same treatment as Sally, except Mary got it a little rough and lost a whole limb. At least now I know what 4 week old flowers smoke like. Shit, by the way.
Mary.JPG MaryBud.JPG

Dot. Dot was the clone that time forgot. I accidentally left her sitting under the bush to the left of Darkwing until about 4 weeks ago. No idea how she's survived this long. She gets TLC like the rest now, and seems quite happy.

I may finish all the clones in a shed under an HPS and an LED. First frost is only about a week away, on average.

A few notes! I've had some spider mites, some leafhoppers, and two buds infected by bud rot. Aside from that, it was an easy grow.

And that's all I have for now. I'll do some harvest pics and post-harvest pics and stuff as it comes. But, YOU, dear viewers, don't have to wait four months to see it all.

Comment away. I like questions, compliments, tips, critiques, etc.

Also, I'm pretty sure when all is said and done, they should weigh just about as much as a sexy witch.

Darkwing Duck has had her tops cut off.

I'll be trimming soon, just needed to get it all in the house. This is the majority of the crop hanging in my flowering cabinet. Just harvested an LSD plant, so the space was ready.

What's left. Notice the considerable lack of purple on the plant now. Will probably harvest the rest when I harvest the tops on the clones.

More to come. I have trimming, manicuring, drying, curing, and taste testing to do still. Stay tuned!

Thanks so much for sharing :weed:

Thanks! This was a cool plant to grow. It's actually Frisian Duck, a close, mutant cross with webbed leaves.

I'm seeing how much a difference a couple weeks can make. Will definitely be forcing flower mid-season next year and going for a double harvest. October flowers are just not there for me.

haha sorry for the mixup ;)

So the Darkwing undergrowth didn't ripen up as you would've liked?
How does one force flower in the outdoors?
Cheers!

Yeah, it wasn't purple to begin with, but a week in the sun brought it out and it got nice and sugary.

I'm building a frame, will have a blackout material and baffles to allow airflow. I'd do a greenhouse but don't have the money or room.

Ah yes, that way you can "switch" to flower earlier... I had a friend who did that once, for a while he was all "ohno, I have to go, cover up my plants!", pretty stressful for a while, but worked perfectly!

If you're building a frame anyway, you actually could make a mini-greenhouse of it and just let them go for longer, but I think that depends greatly on the climate and whether that alone can up the temps enough to finish blooming...
