Fanatics - take them seriously

I was having a debate with a friend last night regarding fanatics. Now, he was of the opinion that fanatics aren't to be taken seriously; that they're simply losers that live in their mothers basements and spend all their free time shouting at the rain.

I on the other hand take them dead seriously, no matter how ridiculous their ravings are.

It's two polar opposite outlooks, which I pondered after we got off the phone for quite some time. Then in occurred to me:

I wonder how all those people that never took Hitler seriously felt after the war...those that survived it, that is.

Fanatics are the most dangerous people on earth, folks. Why? Because they really and truly believe in their own bullshit. They are to be taken not only dead seriously, but dealt with quickly.

If you don't think so, then I'll leave you with the final words of a fanatic. Ponder them carefully.

"So what? So you give me the death penalty. Death isn't a penalty, it's an escape. Do you really think by applying your death penalty and killing me that you win? I have news for you: the score is 168 to 1. You don't win. I do." - Timothy McVeigh

Fanatics in power need to be taken seriously. They're dangerous, especially when their logic has no basis in fact. (Obama wire tapped me, climate change is a global hoax, 3 million illegal votes, etc).

Everyday fanatics talking about surveillance in your microwave or reptilian leaders I don't pay much attention to.

And nobody paid any attention to Hitler in the beginning either. Or Bin Laden. Or McVeigh. Or Jim Jones. Or many others. They were all just every day fanatics in the beginning.

See where that gets you?

Your friend is dead wrong. Fanaticism is an extremely powerful and dangerous force in human affairs, always has been and will be for as long as people exist.

If we humans exterminate ourselves, it will be because of fanaticism.

You mistake fanaticism for mental illness. While the two have a bit of overlap in some cases, they are very different phenomena.

I just don't have the gusto to watch their YouTube news or see where they're getting their information. Every time I see a 30 min YouTube "truth teller" video posted I roll my eyes, I just can't bring myself to watch the whole thing. Ain't nobody got time for that.

That's part of the problem with us all that you keep missing: nobody takes any of them seriously.

Then when buildings get blown up, millions get sent to the gas chamber, children get gunned down in cold blood, we all look around and say, "how the hell did this happen"?

We let it happen. We let it all happen by never taking any of them seriously...until, of course, it's too late.

But what do you do? These individual people with no power seem to fester and grow when given attention on the Internet or in real life. It's not like their minds are open to change. You try in a polite manner to give them facts, they say you're fake news and don't know the truth.
Then anger comes, "debate" regresses to name calling and then the situation seems much worse.
I don't know how to deal with them myself. This is of course the seemingly innocuous people that you may interact with on the Internet. How do you pick out the ones that are going to bomb a Mosque? How do you see the ones that aren't just hiding behind their keyboards but are going to actually murder people?

Nah. You're just sad, sick lil whack job who's desperately trying to escape your miserable life and memories of being used in prison like the bitch you are.

Just a snitch. You'll never amount to shit.

I pity you.

Coming from a guy who has a POF account.

Sounds like 90% of the people posting here.

Give them a voice. Then they can shout their message and people can hear it, decide for themselves- and keep an eye on the fuckers.

That's why freedom works.

Well there's a clear difference between people that are just posting to get a rise out of members and ones that truely believe in what they're saying.

Or is there? I don't know I think some of the people here are just trolling for attention. Who could actually like trump?

True enough, but fanaticism is a lot of work. Most don't have it in them.

I myself wonder how anyone could actually like Trump. :?

Mine too, most are never going to do anything. Well, besides spread their message to any and all that will listen.
You can't stop the spread of hate, especially now. I guess all you can do is hope to change a mind or two.
I do find ignoring them a much more relaxing option. Trying to have an actual conversation with someone that believes in pizzagate, for example, is an exercise in futility.

Would any amount of reason have stopped this man?

Oh I'd much rather laugh at them or ignore them that try to talk to them. It's like talking to a brick wall.

Is there another way? Probably, I just don't think I have the patience for it.

I would never in a million years believe some of the alt-right spew that comes out of their mouths. And they're never going to be on board with my "snowflake libtard agenda".

Has it always been this way? I really felt like things were progressing to some semblance of unity before the last couple of years. Or perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention?

Oh, the Germans turned on Hitler too. I had a professor who was a part of the "de-Nazification" process in the immediate post-war. It turned out that only about 1 out of a thousand Germans ever supported him.

I am of course saying this tongue in cheek - but it accurately reflects the lies he was told. Most of them just joined the Nazi party for the bitchin' Hugo Boss uniforms.
