Fat and wide

Hey Terry, thanks for sharing this with all of us BTW. I guess as long as the plant can take it, 8 inches is OK, but that is a big height disparity between plants and the power of those panels, don't you think? Can you get the short ones on one side and adjust each panel individually? Coverage is important, but not at the cost stretching or bleaching your plants, right? At least that's my way of looking at it.

And yeah, Uncle Ben will change a lot of things about your growing style if you listen. I know he changed mine. Just don't disagree with him. LOL Hope you get your juju straightened out.

Thanks for the comment FranJan. I agree with you about light placement. My lights are at different heights, but not a lot different. I am surprised that the tall one isn't bothered by being so close. The 24" difference is between the highest and lowest flowers in the tent and is an exageration by a few inches.

You are using fabric pots, that alone is a good start. Indoors you want them nice and short and wide. Most white strains do not get too tall but yield very well. Good luck!

Edit-I see this is under LED and of course from the pics later in the thread it's easy to see. I'm not a fan of LED but good luck anyway.

good job so far. Blackstars are awesome till they break... rip 2011 blackstar 500. I hope the new ones are better.

the fabric pots are good in the way they drain and absorb. Eager to look at the roots after harvest.

I am having some trouble with the WWs. I flipped them to 12/12 shortly after problems started. I will post some pics soon.

I have 3 Blackstars. Read a few journals that used them and bought them. They seem fine, but time will tell.

Are you checking your ppm and pH? That can really affect nutrient uptake and overall plant health.

ph-yes. Close to 6.5. ppm on occassion. usually way low compared to suggested FF. As of yesterday, I am ro water. (ppm-6 and ph 7.4 from the filter). I am doing something wrong with the white widdows, but don't know what. Working on it and learning patience.

3 or 4 weeks I think.
You can read every post available, but you won't start learning until you make mistakes on your own. It is only then that you have to figure out what to do or not to do next time.
My biggest lesson so far is don't over feed.
The following picture is of a very common house plant. It was given to me over 20 years ago (yes, 20). Over the years, I have split it, repotted, watered and fed it. I still have the same small bottle of miracle grow plant food and it is more than 1/2 full. It was 8 oz to start. Mostly, I have let it alone to grow. I think there is a lesson there.
The next pic is the Jack Herer in my tent. It is getting harvesty

Last night I did a partial harvest of 2 of my plants. Trichomes were a combination of clear and cloudy and I liked the sample of a few days ago. I plan to harvest at a few stages to see what the difference is and what I like.
I partially screwed the white widows up in week 6 of veg and they never recovered. Stunted growth and small buds with brown spotted top leaves. Still, way more yield then I need. Also, I regularly removed bad leaves throughout flowering.
I feel like I can now comment on the Blackstar LEDs I am using. Simply put, they work fine. In both of my tents, there is a plant (different variety) that is much taller than the others, so I have to compromise with how low or high the lights are set. There is a sativa in the white widow tent that is within 8 or 10 inches of the light while the others are about 18' away. Everything seems to tolerate this. I can't speak to how this effects yield. Next time I will try to train plants to stay more even and play with the light adjustment more.
BTW, the sativa is beautiful and is covered with nice buds. Until the problems started, all of the plants were treated the same.

Nice grow Terry. I am in week 4 growing under an HTG 7-band 240w LED. And my plants are fat and wide also. I started my light out at about a foot off the seedlings right after transplant, but soon raised it to 18" based on advice from the nice folks on this forum and have since raised it to 24". How high did widows get befor taking them into flower. I know you said you had an issue at week 7 of veg with them. Do you remember how tall they were at that point. Here's one of my short, but fat assed, sprouts.

They were about 12" to 14" tall and very thick. Going forward, I will thin the lower part of the plants when they are so bushy. The widows never got much taller due to my mistakes. Just a bit of stretching for the tops. The lone sativa was similar in size until I flipped to 12/12. It more than doubled and will yield real well.
I can't give you any advice on the ht. of your lights. My experience so far is that it is not real critical. Maybe keep it high enough so it is shared equally and just rotate the plants.

That plant is a Shamrock plant. I've got a purple one, and those things never die. I love how they fold down at night, and open up during the day.

I have the "432" htg and if you get that bad boy too close they will cook wont they? lol I actually just pulled my light back a bit yesterday cause it was causing some leaf tacoing.

Actually, I got down to 10".... They loved it, no bleaching at all, but no stretch at all either. The are finally getting some vertical growth now that the light is at 24". The 432W may be too much to get that close... Probably is..

There is a grower on RIU who has done a number of excellent led comparisons. In fact there is one going on now. In (at least) one he started at 55" and left the light at this level for the entire grow. I am sure this is partially specific to his lights, but his approach is meticulous and his results are great. Search Wejuana, and look at his grows if you are interested.

The calendar says 3/6 for the Jack Herer (pictured below). The buds are extremely dense. So far almost everything is milky, but no amber. I am looking for just a few amber, then harvest.
My unharvested white widow is still ugly and stunted, but gaining more frost.
