Fence Posts

I know many of you have seen the top fed NFT systems that are made of plastic fence posts from the hardware store. I've seen pictures of them here, actually. Would it be necessary to paint these black? I know that root systems naturally prefer dark. Also how necessary is it to get the capillary matting? Spanx for ur input.

Opt for the 6" wide posts if you can afford it. There is much more area for root growth.

Capillary matting increases nutrient uptake but also provides a better environment for growth of mold and other bad things. You should be fine without it.

You can get black ones here cheap:http://www.huskervinyl.com/

I paid 5 bucks for 4 x 4 black posts cut to 39".
They have 5 x 5 and 6x 6 in white but they are more.
Get a quote then make an offer! I offered 5 bucks for the posts and a buck a piece for the caps. They said "Deal."

My 02 cents.
