Finally started my first grow...(shithouse)

****I restarted this thread in a little more organized fashion..."Gettin My Feet Wet" in sig, thanks.****

So the only thing holding me back previously from growing was buying a grow box... I'm currently saving for a car so roughly 500 bucks can't happen for at least a month. I have been absolutely DIEING to get a sucker in some soil. So I decided the only way to get me goin and motivated to save money for the box is to get my feet wet.

So I have done pretty large amount of research and read a couple books. However as stated previously this will be a "shithouse" grow. If you do not now what a shit house is read the next paragraph if you do then skip it...

shithouse (n,v)
1. (N) ghetto ass setup with just shit housin through
2.(v) to shit house someone is to do something shit to em

So I just popped a bagseed seed, of some pretty good bud I got within the past 6 months, in a wet paper towel in a ziplock bag, then put that on a heat pad at the lowest setting. Waiting for that to split. So ill check tomorrow and post pics... I have a bunch even one of the bud from the seed but I'm outty 5000 gotta sleep.

If you wanna go el cheapo get some cardboard and make one just make sure you vent good. Or, for a couple bucks go get some of the pink insulation board and you'll be able to get any wood you'll need for structure out of the scrap bins at lowes and hd. If they don't have any wood you'll need come back a day or two later.

your biggest expense will be the lighting and ventilation

I second what bb61 said. Cardboard box or a bunch of wood hammered together, some cheap wal-mart fans for circulation, a powerful fan for exhaust, and lights can be rigged (using a light socket adapted to plug cfl's into power strips).

Ph can be balanced with lemon juice (yeah sure... I should buy expensive ph balancing stuff blah blah... yeah... no), ph test kits are cheap and can be brought at a pet store. Alaskan fish emulsion 5-1-1 is cheap and gets the job done with no burn.

You can do this! No needs for expensive items.

Small edit: jiffy seed starting mix. Dirt cheap at wall mart and it's amazing for seeds.

Sorry it was late last night when I typed that. But I already have a box and light set up. 2 power strips with 3 bulbs each. All the bulbs are around 23-26 watts ill check when I get home but they're also 1600 lumens so basically 9600 lumens. My box is a shitty old book shelf with some peice of super super heavy duty cardboard and some Velcro for a door. I have some old fans from a pc and a airhockey table. I'm not home right now so ill elaborate on my ideas later. Basically now I know if I plant a seed my setup will still grow it but I'm going to tweak it as I go along. I already have a few major changes.

But today I popped 2 more seeds in my napkin.. I don't think the first ones gonna split :/.

Popped in another seed to a new bag a napkin. I got a few from my buddy so I figured why not. I have 4 total germmin now so if none of them split I have 2 dank bagseed left and the rest is older regs seeds. I'm prayin a dank splits haha. I also made a new light fixture. I emailed pics ill upload tomorrow..

So the main things left on the check list is ventilation and possibly odor control. Ventilation is definitely the next thing though. I shouldn't have to worry about it becoming an issue for about a week so I have some time.

Well basically I'm pretty excited. 3x 26w ("=100w") 6500k 1.6k lumen CFLs & 3x 23w ("=100w") 2700k 1.6k lumens, for a grand total of 9600 lumens. Sounds pretty decent for one plant in a 1 sq. foot space.

Any one have a general idea on what I should yeild? Lowball it though I don't think this is gonna pull a zip or anything.

Goodnight all.
