Fire Hazard??

Hey Hey, whatsup everyone,

Need a bit of advice on my awesome grow box that I am about to build.

Instead of a bunch of timers I got one of these http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS7139308230.html to control everything. I can run it via computer and Internet...sweet eh!

Anyway, I was searching for more info on them and I read a spec sheet that rated each outlet, that you would plug a piece of equipment into, at a max of 6 amps, even though each circuit is rated at 15 amps.

That sucks because I was hoping to use a single 1000 watt bulb.

My question is, if a standard household outlet can take a 1000 watter plugged in, don't you think this can as well, even if they rate it at a max of 6 amps per plug?

DO you thing they were rating it for safety, but it could handle a 1000 watt?

Sorry for the speculative details here, just looking for opinions, to be honest I think it can but to be on the safe side I will probably add an automatic fire extinguisher. I could use 2 600watters, but Im trying to keep my costs lower at this point.

Thanks in advance to any replies...

P.S> What I would really like to see, and Im sure a whole lot of others, is someone or a group that can hack one of these things and then write a program to control these things for grows....

Whoa......I wouldn't run a 1000w lamp on that device. When the 1kw lamps fire up I would think it will fry that thing.....It was designed for servers and switches right.....on a 120v circuit it will pull 1100+watts at start up (1100/120=9.+amps) Thats alot of juice.

Give me a minute and I will find a link.....I recommend you google automated greenhouse controllers or check Custom Automated Products for remote control systems designed specifically to run horticultural equipment.

Just to let you know-top of the line greenhouse controllers can start over $600usd and cost thousands for the MacDaddy units.:o

Check out my 4000w Grow Room Thread here in the design/set-up section.:weed:

Interesting...guess I will have to down grade to 600 watts then.
Yes, the controller I linked to is meant for servers and switches. I would really like to get a greenhouse controller, but they are too expensive for the small set-up I have. Would love to have one though...

The name plate rating is the minimum safety standard.
other words do this at your own peril.
You can use this device to control a contactor.Which is a high power relay for AC current
