This is my first attempt at growing, but I've done a shitload of research. I'm open to suggestions and criticisms. As of this initial post the 10 plants in my closet are 20 days old counting from the day half of my germinated seeds had sprouted (14 days old if you count from the day I transplanted my ten best seedlings to 6" pots - For the sake of this Journal, I'll adapt this timeline) I have pictures at Days 5, 7, and 13.
Strain 10 Skunk Special seeds from http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseeds.com, they gave me 20 free seeds with my order, didn't specify the strain of the free ones. 27 out of 30 germinate in 36 hours (the 3 that fail are all SS, I gave them an additional 48 hours to germinate and still nothing). After all was said and done only 1 SS seedling made the cut when I transplanted to the 6" pots
, along with 9 of the freebies. (I tried emailing them and getting a strain name - no response).
Soil Foxfarm Happy Frog - I might switch to a 50-50 Light Warrior/Ocean Forest mix when I transplant to 3-gallon pots next week
Nutrients Foxfarm Grow Big and Big Bloom; I wanted to buy the solubles, but I'm broke. I started using Grow Big on day 5 with <1/2 dose for the first two waterings, 1/2 dose for the next, and then full strength. I'll hold off on the Big Bloom till flowering.
Water I use a liquid test kit to pH my tapwater before waterings. It's consistantly around 6.5, decreases to about 6 after adding the Grow Big, which seems to be corrected by about 6-8 drops of the pH up that I have. I don't have an EC meter yet - I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me. I water every 2-3 days, when the top layer of soil is dry.
Lights 400W HPS with MH conversion bulb, using the MH until I start to flower. They've been on an 18/6 schedule, I'm hoping to see preflowers and cull the males before I switch to 12/12. Had the light approximately 4ft from the seedlings as they emerged from the soil, when I transplanted to 6" pots I initially moved the light up another foot then slowly lowered it over the course of a week to 2ft from the plants.
Room Dimensions 0.74mX1.4m and its about 2m to the ceiling
General Environment I have the walls covered in Mylar (poorly I might add, its hard to make that shit look nice if you're hanging it alone
) with a fan blowing on the ballast (hanging from ceiling) and another two circulating air near and around the plants. The closet door is always open and the AC is always running. The temperature is 25-26C during lights on and 20C during lights off. Relative humitidy was around 60% the first 2 weeks in soil and has dropped to about 40% since where it has been holding. I have a dehumidifyer I can use if necessary.
I made a variation of this but havn't had to use it yet, since they are relatively young and don't smell yet. I'm hoping my Green Apple ONA kills any odor problems I may eventually have.
