distance looks good. Cant tell from the pics but are the back of the lights vented? If not drill a few holes for the heat to go up and out instead of down and out

im using the pc case fans to cycle the hot air from the lights in the grow area since it stays pretty cool. after using the fans the temp jumped to about 82 with the lights on. i also had a light timer problem. lights got turned on six hours late.. think they will go hermie or anything? its not too late to start again lol..

i also found a T8 fixture to throw into the mix.. went and got the bulbs today and the damn thing wont fit in the fireplace. ill use it somewhere im sure..

more timer problems.. after the mis hap yesterday i went to buy a new timer. after i got it i got way too fucked up to read how to set it up. So the lights were coming on and going off at different times all day. poor plants lol they are probably trippin out. oh well, we will press on!:hump:

im already germinating some more seeds lol.. just in case :weed: i think im going to veg them under the t8 i found today. then move them into the grow area, i should be ordering a new light soon.. 400w hps&mh from htg for 169 bucks. not bad at all. i really do see the simplicity of one light now :dunce:

looks real good.

but heres a thought for you...since the fireplace was never finished why not do some renovation to a full grow room...

get a saw and cut the front bricks out to like 6 ft,and then screw a 6ft piece of plywood to the bricks and then cut out a little door and then put up hinges and a latching mechonisme, could be as simple as a gate latch.

now once that is done put a 4by4 8ft from the ground and then hook a hid to it,u should have enough air from the top of the chimney to keep the temps in a reasonable range to keep the plants at an optimal temperature, but in the winter you may need a space heater. build a box on top of the chimey stack that goes from the ground to the under deck of your porch, make the box like 5ft long and wide, because the hid would put off more light and that box would keep your under deck from glowing like theres a monster under there. also that size should allow for enough air circulation to keep the temp in the stack realativly optimal.u would need a fan for the plants to,and you could put up mylar all around inside to make it a mint setup.

thats just a thought when i seen your setup.

its very neat and cool, plus rep

update! so despite the traumatizing effects of lights coming on and going off all day the plants look pretty good! the ones under 1 6500k and 1 2700k look to be doing really well. the other under 2 6500k has some browning around the edges of its leaves.. no idea what it could be. Suggestions?

Nice, there up and ready to grow. Once you get the 400 MH in there, it will blow your mind how fast they will grow. I have to slow the growth down and chop mine down the other day cause I have no more room for them to grow. I have a huge Height limitation. :(

yea thats what im worried about. the plants blowing up and not having room for them.. i think i will have 2 ft from grow medium to light once it goes in. I think if i top all my plants and get a nice even canopy that will help things out

I feel ya. I have 2 feet 2 inches from bottom of table to light. Less then 2 feet from grow medium. Some of my plants are 2-3 inches from the light. Thank god is cool weather right now. Due to my cab and ducting, I cannot lift the light any higher. But dam it has served me well. Check out my Clone Harvest in my link. All with the 400 Floralux and Organic Soil and Fox Farm Nutes.

update! So this is the first time i have left them unattended for more than twenty four hours.. and they look great two more sprouted but the one straggler/mutant/runt died. Fuck mutated bud, and i didint expect it to make it. but besides that all the other plants look great. I think that having a even mix of daylight to soft light bulbs is key in cfl growing. The two plants that are under differing bulbs are much bigger than the others. Im liking the results with the mixed lighting :-P also i should be ordering some good seeds this week at some point so be on the look out for those :weed:
