First Coco Grow and A Couple Questions.

Hi all! I have spent a lot of time growing in soil, Foxfarm specifically. This is my first coco grow, soil has always caused me issues and it was recommended to try out coco by several on this board. I bought a couple bricks of Cocotek Coco Coir and House and Garden Cocos A & B nutrients. My first question is, since coco is an inert medium how soon should I start feeding them? I had read somewhere on this board that it's by the time the plant gets its third set of leaves. I started mine in coco as seedlings though and they have just barely surfaced and already seem hungry to me... What do you guys think?

Also once they are ready to be fed, how much nutrients is recommended to use? Usually it's a smaller dosage than what the bottle recommends in my experience with other nutrients.

EDIT: Forgot to mention this is under a 600w HPS light, 18/6 schedule, approx 81F light on temps.

Doing a little more reading seems like a lot of people say to start the nutes almost right away in coco. The leaves on some of my seedlings are a little yellow and brown so I think I'm going to start the nutes. They've been planted about 1 week now. Now I just need to know how much I should use.... I've never used nutes on a plant this small before I don't want to burn them!

Actually I have a 1/4 tsp = 1.25 mL. Guess I can just fill it a little short. That should be close enough right?

Hmmm just thought about that I usually mix in gallon containers too. I have a House and Garden Feed chart that says 2.5 mL per gallon for cuttings/seedlings.

Cool thanks. Maybe I'll try 1.5-2 mL per gallon of each to start, just to be on the safe side.

If they need more I can always just give em more.

Well I've been feeding them 2.5mL A&B for the last 3 waterings now and they are bigger, about four sets of leaves now, but they are still yellowing and drooping some. Do I need to up my dose? Am I over-feeding? This is frustrating, I had heard that this was supposed to be easier and better than soil. :(

When starting seedling or clones when using coco I normally buy the brick coco and so you gotta mix it with water, I normally add nutrients right away with the water when I break down the coco. Set the ppms between 250 and 350. Make sure you also watch out for cal mag deficiencies it's super common in coco. Plus a cal may supplement never hurts anyways.

I missed that last part where you said it starting to yellow. Is it a full blown across the leaves yellow or still have green veins? If it's across the entire leaf then it's a possibility that it'll be a lack of nutes, most likely nitrogen. If it looks like theres yellow streaks or yellow leaves and green veins, it's more commonly a cal msg issue. if you go overboard with the calmag it'll look like you burned the plant with a magnifying glass in circular spots. I've been messing around with coco for a little bit now. Gotta say it's alittle messier then hydro but it's easier then hydro.
