First Grow 9Lx9Wx6.5H Room

This is my first time at this, I'm trying to take this hobby seriously but only have so much time and limited money but decent resources (friends + what I have acquired). I've had these plants for 45 days now, started them from seed. They are 6 Hindu kush and one bagseed from friend. They vary from 8"-12 tall. They are starting to smell a little bit and I am very interested in finding out the sex. My plan is to get a couple good mothers and clone like crazy to plant outdoors this spring. I am pretty sure I have the space to set up a flower area but I don't know how to go about it yet. I should be ready to clone now or soon right ? This is partly why I am writing this in a new thread... I've come this far from reading on the internet pretty much lol so help me if you can, I'll take what I can get but I'll do my due diligence obviously too with my limited time (late nights right now but I hope it will be worth it!)

Some mistakes I know i have made are giving nutrients too early and too much probably, I killed some saplings after one week the first, first time around. The 7 I have going strong still do have some problems, I am pretty sure my nutrient cocktails have something to do with it. I thought mixing a lil bit of this and a lil bit of that would only help, I honestly was only doing 1/4 - 1/2 strength but probably using too many different products making the overall concoction too potent.

On pretty much each plant there is at least 1 - 4 leaves like this. I have cut some off that were worse. I topped 3 of them just to learn what happens, some people are telling me that I did it too early and should have waited longer.. I dunno, I guess it's all apart of trying and seeing at this point. I really want to figure out why my leaves are like this - leaning towards, heat from light, nutrient OD, poor drainage .... I really wanna figure this out and have healthier plants...

Most of the plants are quite bushy and of decent size but i have 2 runts. I probably did something stupid and fucked these guys up, one looks like a mutant, whats going on with this thing, should I just pull it or try to improve its condition?

Temperature 69-75F consistently
72F at canopy - stating this because people most people think leaves are under heat stress??? There is a heat coming in via a duct i brought in, basement is super cold without it, its hooked up to the furnace and house thermostat.

light 1000w switchable ballast - currently on 600w setting
24" away from canopy
under "U" shaped reflector - no cool tube
I have 2 shop lights that I am using for the seedlings, I was hoping to keep using these for seedlings/clones. I have 4 phillips 6500 T12 bulbs in them. Could i potentially maybe get 2 more shop lights like this for the mothers?

I have a 4"200CFM inline fan, a computer fan and a house fan (i think it will be too strong once I split the rooms) ... need to figure out how to move air in 2-3 areas... There is a window to the outside (it is middle of winter here, 10C outside)

Soil pH 6-6.5 ...(i only have a digital soil pH tester right now... I use it in the water before I feed them and it does give me a reading... but its not meant for liquid i don't think tho)
I used promix and it said it was ready to go straight from the bag. I have the plants in 2 gallon pots with plenty of holes in the bottom. When I water there is a TINY bit of runoff but not much and it takes about 1 week before the moisture meter says its ready for most water. I want to eventually transplant only the female plants into 5 gallon pots, I was thinking of mixing more perlite in the soil when i transplant.

These are the only nutrients I have bought or acquired some how... I don't really have the money to buy any more right now, hopefully I can just use these.. but properly, any suggestions on what I should use here would be appreciated.

The room dimensions are 9'Lx9'Wx6.5'H. Really need ideas on how to split this space up, need to do it soon. This is how it looks right now. I have one window you see in the picture but its covered by the light blocking plastic right now. The space is 2'x2' but i can only open it half way so 1x2... IF I REALLY wanted to i could take out whole window... don't want it too look too fishy though, its in the basement and I do have a neighbor.

I have plenty of the room darkening plastic... i was going to split the 9x9 room in half.. is this the best bet ? and get new shops lights or cfls for veg room and take the 1000w to the flower room (should be closer to window because of smell im thinking - Charcoal filter to outside or something like that? I should be taking cutting from each plant and flower them to see the sex right ?
Help, or i'm just gonna keep reading + making it up as I go lol

I don't know if i should have done this but i cut off the real ugly fan leaves that were curling and turning brown/yellow. All the rest and new growth looks good. I've been watering with plain water and I will monitor the situation to see if leaves continue to curl.

By 2 months I really do want to figure out the sex of these plants and take some clones or something, just need some directions.

Also, the new seedlings that were under the t-12 lights... i just put them with the rest of the garden under the MH light 600w. The light is way farther away that t-12s were but hopefully its a better quality light ? will be interesting to see how they react

Thanks

well lets start at the asics first what is the humidity in the room this can curl your leaves also it looks like i might be to low this time of year it happens alot . mine started having the curling prob when the humidity dropped below a certain point . because you are in veg you want higher humidity . how to correct this prob is to mist or leave standing water on the floor (not the greatest way to do it but it is cheap) . stop getting so fancy with your nutes i saw problend use just that throw the miricle grow away. feed once a week in low doses ramping it up til you find the sweet spot. you wont find out the sex till they mature the branches will become off set. a quick way to do it is to give tham 24 hours of darkness (once agian not the best way) hope this helps i'll sub your thread and try and point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your great advice man. I wasn't paying too much attention to humidity and it was quite low. Also, since there is a heat vent coming into the room from furnace, this must be very dry, hot air.

I am going to take your suggestion but I had a great idea.. i hope it works. We had a baby humidifier that we don't use anymore and I put that in the room just now. I filled it up with water and it was starting to fog some vapour in there. I'll see if this has any effect on the garden.

this is exactly the unit i have... looks right at home w all the plants hahahahah

Hey guys, it's finally the weekend and I actually got to spend a couple hours down in the garden! So I cleaned everything up, got fed up with the "retard" plant and just pulled it because nothing was going on with it.

I tested the soil pH of the plants and they varied from 5.8-6.5 from pot to pot. The temperature around the canopy is 73F and the humidity is 30% on one meter and 55% on another meter (I am going to go purchase a better digital meter for temp and humidity as soon as i get some dough).

I lets the pots dry out substantially and fed all the plants with 2 gallons of total water.
The mix i used was (1/4-1/2 strength):
5ml Pureblend Pro (veg. formula) from botanicare PER GALLON
2.5 ml CAL-MAG PER GALLON
0.5 ml Superthrive PER GALLON
This was mixed in the water I bought from the store (Reverse Osmosis and "Purified?")

I am pretty sure whoever suggested my tap water wasn't the best source was probably right. BECAUSE the first time I started from seeds I was using distilled water and the seedlings did great, no problems at all. When i just started these new seeds I did the first couple waterings with tap water and the baby leaves were CURLING UP just like the leaves on the other plants. I'll continue to use the reverse osmosis water from store, its only like $3 for 5 gallon.

You can see the humidifier I have in the middle misting up the R/O water.

That flexible pipe you see in the top corner of the picture is the heat vent i have coming in, its at the top of the room and away from the plants. I put the plants on the ground and the light is about 30" away from the canopy. I have a small computer fan blowing on the underside of the plants and a big house fan circulating air in the room.

Plant 1

Plant 2

The second plant is by far the tallest plant and grew the most aggressively... here is a close-up... are these the dreaded balls meaning this plant is a MALE?? do you guys see any other signs of what sex my plants might be?

Plant 3

Plant 4

Plant 6 (plant 5 got yanked)

Plant 7

now that you guys have seen my rearrangement in room and see my space and the drain table i also have. Any suggestions on where to go from here? have i turned the corner, plants look healthier? cloning time ?
Thanks dudes, I'm trying here, having fun too

the plant in question is a male. I pulled it and put it in the attic in front of a nice big window... thing is .. it is freezing cold up there.. gonna be a interesting experiment to see how it fares.. if it dies, it dies. It is the same strain as the other bushes (HINDU KUSH ... btw.. what do you guys think of this strain?)

Here are some pics of the garden as of exactly 2 months. From the 4 plants that I THOUGHT had enough growth i took 2 clones from each plant and have them in a propagation tray. It is under the 600w with all the other plants... I think i am doing everything correctly. Its on a heating mat also, in rockwool cubes, i presoaked them and followed the 100 articles on the subject before doing it...

What is really stumping me is that the remaining bushy plants are not showing ANY sex yet... no balls, no pistils nothing.. but they don't have the same leggy structure as the male plant.. they are like little bushes tho...

I WAS HOPING to keep one of the hindu kush plants as a mother... for the main purpose of cloning like crazy before spring and planting outdoors... BUT now i am thinking perhaps I should specifically get a strain that is good for outdoors ... any thoughts on this thinking ??

I know i just rambled on about a bunch of different topics but any insight would be appreciated.. Seriously thought, your guys help has been a huge part on why things are going well. The plants are looking GREAT after adding the humidifier aswell too! THANK YOU SO MUCH! you guys are geniuses!

Hey guys, its been waaaay too long since I've posted. Been super busy with work and such.

Here is an update:

The garden is now 86 days old... I added 4 Nirvana mystery indoor fem. seeds (about 1 month old)... my friend gave me 4 AK 47 clones (about 1 month old)... I did my first cuttings just after 2 months and out of 10 i think 7 have survived and are now out of the domes under the fluorescent lights.

I just took another 12 cuttings 2 days ago and those are under the dome.

I have decided not to split this 9x9 room up in half. INSTEAD i realized i have enough room to build another room outside this one... its dimensions are 9x7... same 6.5 height. This is going to be the veg garden and it is currently under construction. I think I am just going to use the fluorescent tubes I have and make a couple CFL setups for mothers, clone and veg.

i haven't spotted any other males yet... I put the first one in the attic about 3 weeks ago and haven't checked it since lol.. poor bastard is suffering because it is FREEZING HERE!

Well suggestions are always welcomed... CHEERS!

Thanks Ksith.

I have the 1000w so i am trying to figure out how many i can flower at once, I have the room now.
5 of the kush plants could definitely be flowered but i want to keep at least one good one as a mother plant in veg room.
The 4 AK47s are about 6" tall now so i am waiting for those to get bigger
I also have the 3 indicas which are about 6 inches tall now and looking quite bushy...
The veg room will be done by the end of this week but I really don't know what to flower and when... I'm in no rush, just want to do it properly...

I WAS thinking waiting until the AK and indica were both about 12" tall and then flower them with the 4 kush plants... that would be 11 plants in total... what do you think ? I will be taking clones from the AK before flowering them too.... so however long all this takes...

Holy Crap! Has it really been over a month since I have posted on here? My goodness how the time flies by. No word of a lie, I've been super busy. I have enough time to run down and do 15 mins in the morning around 6:30 am... then i have about 15-30 mins in the evening to tend to things.
I've seen the benefits of not meddling too much with the plants growing and side effects of neglect.

I did finally did some cloning. On my first attempt I got 8/12 that look pretty good now and are growing, cut on Jan 31. I took another 12 cuttings but then i got super busy and these guys didnt get the proper attention, only 6/12 are surviving as of now, cut on Feb 21. I took another 24 cuttings the other day, Mar 9. I have ATLEAST one surviving clone from each mother plant as of now and I think i should flower these clones ASAP to 100% determine the sex. I have been careful labeling everything but I know I mixed a couple up... anyone else have this problem?
None of my plants look like the one male I removed.

Gonna have to take on some major changes once these original plants that are 99 days old get too big and if all these clones survive. Suggestions are welcomed. I am getting a flood table for veg. room. I think i just want to flower some clones to determine sex and make clones for the outdoor season. It already stinks quite a bit but I don't have charcoal or any proper venting setup yet. There is a picture of the AK47 beside one of the feminized nirvana seeds, the AK has interchanging nodes and skinny leaves and much leggier. The fem. NIRV. seed has huge leaves, is squat and nodes are mirrored.

6 Original Hindu Kush from seed (assuming FEM. as of now) - Dec 1
Kannabia La Blanca FEM. autoflower? from seed - Jan 19
Nirvana Indoor Fem. Mystery Strain #1 - Jan 19
Nirvana Indoor Fem. Mystery Strain #2 - Jan 19
Nirvana Indoor Fem. Mystery Strain #3 - Jan 19
Nirvana Indoor Fem. Mystery Strain #4 - Jan 19
4 AK47 SEX? CLONES - Cut Jan 7?

+ clones i cut

Nirv.Fem.1 and 2 + AK47s

First set of clones left, second set on right

3rd set of clones

hey guys! thanks for the posts. Sorry about the lack of activity but I have been so super busy with work and family.

Here is a little update, i started flowering 2 AK47s, 2 Hindu kush, I mystery Nirvana seed and 1 kannabia la blanca (autoflower) on March 20 so they have been flowering under the 1000w for 24 days now.

The nugs are looking awesome! This is my first time so i don't really know if its going great or subpar but I think I am doing OK.

The smell starting last week is getting REALLY BAD! i went and bought a charcoal filter for my exhaust system and the outgoing air OUT of the house doesn't smell like marijuana at all! I put a couple bounty sheets with febreeze in the duct work and it just smells like the laundry is going.

The smell IN the house is still a problem, i am working on sealing the room even better and hopefully that will help, the weather is getting nicer so I open some windows a crack.

I will be posting pictures shortly, the calyxes (white hairs?) on the autoflower are starting to turn to brown, the others are all still white. I heard the autoflower yeilds a lot quicker. I bought a 30x magnifier but I will also need your guys help on when to chop these babies and when to stop giving them nutes.

So if i started flowering around march 20th, most should be ready around may 20th correct? This whole process has been quite rewarding, I am learning lots.. hopefully I make it to the end without getting busted LOL..

OK I solved the odour problem with a nice INLINE fan and carbon filter + some ducting.

Here are the pictures I promised. I am on day 39 since i switched to 12/12. So they are in their 5th week of flowering.

I have been watering nutrient water once a week and plain r/o water once a week. I alternate between nutrient watering and fresh water.

Now that week 6 is coming up should I be changing my nutrient schedule at all ?

Also, the autoflower strain looks farther along then the other strains, buds on that one look sweet! bought a nice loupe today and am gonna go look at the pistils closely.

Would really love some advice on how to finish up my first grow! THANKS GUYS!!

The grow light makes everything red.

I need your guys help, this is my first crop and i am on day 43 of flowering. These strains say they should take 56-63 days until ready.

I look at trichomes under microscope and there are ALOT and they are clear.

When should I stop giving them nutrient solution w water and switch to just plain water??

At a certain day or when the trichomes start to turn cloudy ? then how long should I use plain water for and how often.... Need some help w the end game here.

What works for you guys and how am I doing ?
