First grow and in the deepend

Hey, can anyone help me out? (not sure if this should be in newbie central or not) As the thread title states its my 1st grow and 1st post, ive gone for the bubbler but I'm having a few problems: slow growth roots taking forever to grow and I dont think they're taking up much water. They did have a difficult start, being a n00b i gave them water straight from the tap at ph 7.9 and lest than quarter strength nutes. On top of this they was in a large room (4 plants in a corner of a room 3m x 2.4m). I've now put them in a budbox @ 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m with a 600w HID and a 150W CFL but still not much improvement. BTW theyre 6 wks old .

What strain is it? What temperature is it in the room? What PH are you keeping them at now? Do you have good air circulation?

you need to have the lights closer for sure - im not sure about the range of high wattage cfls (if that is the actual wattage and not equivalent, is it?), but its 1-3 inches from the plant when using multiple small ones such as 50 watts
good luck, ill keep watchin

It's cheese, the highest temp is 27c and low is 11c with 6hrs of no light. There is good circulation extraction is quite strong and the intake is on low but not directly into the tent. Ive got 2 intake flaps and 2 vents open letting the fresh air flow in. How close should I have the 600W? The CFL is actually 150 watts. My friend has got a very similar light setup so I thought it whould be fine for me too.

Thanks for the replys.

*edit* been keeping the water at ph 6.4

I hear the best PH is around 5.8, so a little lower might be best. Maybe 2 to 2 and a half feet hanging above the plants. Unless CFLs get unusually hot, but small plants like that can usually handle a lot of light. I usually mist them until flowering with Spray N Grow. But, I use HPS. I'm not sure if misting is bad with your kind of light. I hear some lights can use droplets of water as a source of magnification of light and cause burn holes. As long as the air circulation is good and they get lots of light, those things will shoot up.

cfl's are pretty low-temp, so that probly wouldnt be a problem - either way, maybe misting during the night cycle?

I would set your PH to 5.8 to 6.0. Make sure you have no algae in the tank. Look for any green build up or discoloring..

Do you use a pump and feed lines to feed the rockwool.. Your flow can be too high ..That will slow growth .. It will look like nute lockout ..

If you read my grow I had some major issues with PH and algae .... I fixed that and still had no real growth / and My plants looked like your`s but alot younger .. ..

I turned the pump off and let the rockwool dry out a bit and in 2 days leafs popped back color came back,,
so all I do now is just turn the water pump on for a few minutes a day Im letting the Bubbles do the rest so the roots will have to hunt for the water in the tank ..

and now 4 out of 6 have tap roots growing like mad .. 3 days ago I had none Good luck keep us posted .....:fire::bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint::weed:

Add nutes...don't add nutes...nute burn...underfed...turn your pump off...I'm having the same problem and I don't know who the hell to listen to! I ordered a SH setup, and that air pump don't have the balls to stir the water! I'm running 2 now, running 1/4 nutes and now I have burn going on...wtf? Another post I saw, a guy had little trees growin in 6 days! I am using a Ph meter (yes it is calibrated) a TDS meter (calibrated) and I have some little peppers I threw into a pot of soil with a single 42w cfl that are twice the size of this hydro grow...I'm bummed!

I dont have a pump in the system as its all gravity fed with an auto top up.
I've now set the ph to 5.8 and lowered the 600w and made sure theres plenty of air circultaion. They are now at 76f, I haven't added more nutes yet but tomorrow I'll be draining the system because I do have a bit of algae build-up and when I drain it I'll boost the nutes.

I checked them yesterday ~ 4hrs after the adjustmest and a little misting and they did look a little better. I'm going to check them later today and I'll give you all an update :-o

I'm trying to find out why the stems are purple as Sexxxy Beast said, its definately not right. Ill try just the cfl in a few days if there's not enough improvement but I was unde the impression that there can never be too much light only too much heat...

Here's a couple of pics of the setup and my bubbles.

Definatly an improvement, leaves starting to perk up and the roots are speading out a little too.

Rcope47, have you had any improvements atall? I'm far from experienced but I have been reading up on growing for a couple of years. It sounds like you've got nute lock on your roots, even with 1/4 strength you'll get nute burn because the roots are taking too much of certain nutes and none or very little of others and that imbalance will give nute burn. If I'm wrong or explained it badly I'm sure someone can help... Hang in there bud.

What is the humidity level in the grow room?

make sure theres not even a faint of light in your bubbler or your plants roots will refuse to grow and rot...your pots look like there transparent and will let alittle light in...especially when you have a 600 watt mh over them...you can duct tape, cover it with mylar or paint it. just make sure it really dark in there under your light. i would suspect this is your problem if you have everything else right....your light is fine your temp is fine ph is fine your bubbles is fine...i dont know what else it could be cept light is seeking into the bubbler.
