First Grow cfl

This is my first grow ever. I'm considering this practice before I buy seeds and try . With that being said I'm only growing one plant in a closet I'm using 2 13 w cfl 6500k right now and its looking ok at only about a week old but i'm wondering if and how much more light i need to use. I'll obviously have more questions later but since im not using nutrients yet I'm really just concerned about the lights. Any advice would be a huge help. I'll post some pics when i can.

the more light the better, just go with a 600HPS, way overboard now but great for flowering. The best thing for it now would be T-5 fluorescence.

i would love to have 600 w hps but due to cash restrictions ive gotta keep it simple this time around..however if i got a single 150 w hps would that be enough to get a decent yeild for a personal smoke stash? also when is the recomended time to start fertilizing?

Depends on how many plants you want to grow. With the amount of light that you have now, don't expect alot from the plant. What are you going to use during flowering?

I'm looking into a 150 watt hps for flowering and since i'm only growing one plant would that work and what kind of yield could i expect using that type of light on only one plant?

Ok so now i'd say I'm about 2 and half weeks from when it first sprouted I've still got the 2 13 w cfls that are 6500k and i've also added a 68 watt cfl 2700k to the top of it its growing well but I need some advice should i get a few more 6500ks or is this a good mix to get to flowering. I'm planning on flowering at about 15 inches i only want it to be about 3-4 feet tall. Also what would happen if I added a 26 watt full spectrum to the mix?

^It'll help, for sure. How much, depends on the lumen output. Also, you should switch out those 13 watt bulbs, for some 23 watt bulbs, while you are getting your hands on some 42 watters, or even the 65 watter. With fluorescents, it's not possible to have too much light. As long as their not burning the plant, you could have the whole thing covered.lol Actually, I'd love to try that someday. Hmm.....*is getting ideas*LOL

I'm in the process of making my own fixture and reflector. I've got a basic idea in mind i'm going to run about 250-300 watts. 2 100 watt daylight cfls 2 23 watt daylights and 2 23 watt 2700k. And the great thing is if I do it right I'll be able to switch the bulbs out for the different stages. I may go with 2 85 watt daylights instead of the 100s it just depends on my money situation. One moore question when should I start feeding it I started a little early and got some discoloration in the leaves so I backed off but for some reason i'm gettin impatient lol.

Been a while sinnce I've updated this if anyone is following along. For some reason be it lack of light or something else I"m doing wrong my plant looks a little underdevelped. It has a few burn marks from over feeding too early but other than it being short for its age it looks pretty healthy I think. Here are a few pics taken yesterday feel free to comment with any advice!:joint:

^How old is it? I agree, it looks pretty healthy, even though it had a tad too much nitrogen.lol I'd say that it's the size of 'normal growing' plant that is about 10-12 days old(approximately), and I'm guessing that it's alot older than that? I'm guessing that it's those 13 watt lights that are holding it back. Also, it would help if they were positioned above the plant, rather than off to the side, because that should stimulate upwards growth. It could also be the soil. What kind are you using?

Its about a month old (not sure of exact age b/c i was surprised when it started sprouting) I've got 2 26 watt 6500ks over it now but i've been running the 13s with a 68 watt 2700k. I'm using mg potting mix and those damn walmart desk lamps wont hold in any other position besides the one they're in so i've got them lighting the backside of the planht. This was all pretty rushed in the setup so hopefully once i finally get my light fixture done things will start looking a little better.

would it be a better idea to get 2 100 watt 6500k cfls and build them into a fixture or would i be better off using about 8 26 watt bulbs?

If those lights are the cfls that you mentioned, then I would try to place them within 2 inches of the plant. Maybe it might be easier for you to just put something under the pot to raise the plant up to the lights.

what spectrum is it? (red, blue, softwhite, daylight)
dont use, cool white or bright white they are "moonlight"
thats useless for your ladies (cross your fingers)
although theres ways to make sure your percentage of female gets higher,
now if i wasnt stoned i'd look but there is always the search button, lol.

id use it if it was considered "daylight" thats great for your vegetative state.

then drop some dough on a soft white for your flowering.

now as far as lumens go you need a minimum of 3000 per square foot, MINIMUM.
now how is your set up? we need a bit more information to help you out.
