*LEGAL MEDICAL PATIENT GROW!!!!
So I am going to start my journal, and grow for the first time. I know mh lights are recommended to grow during veg but I have a tight budget and can only afford the equipment I have. I'm currently running 12/12, yes I know: why don't I do 18/6? I prefer to do my lighting schedule like the sun, maybe I will try 18/6 when I am more intermmediate. Comments and advice are welcome to my journal.

So, the seed that has already sprounted is Kush, the rest are bagseed that have sprouted as well, still haven't rose from the dirt though. Kush seed sprouted about a week ago and today was the second day under the 400hps(I just did my setup two day's ago). I never planned to grow untill i came across that kush seed two weeks ago and I sprounted it, then I decided to get some equipment.

Temps stay between 68-72f during day, and I predict that temps get as low as 55 during night( I have this setup at a relatives house, my place is too small, so I really can't check on my grow whenever I want)

Using
dr120 4x4x7tent (I have it outdoor, in south california weather)
400hps
switchable ballast(mh/hps)
digital ph reader
ph up/down
foxfarm ocean forest
foxfarm grow big, big bloom
exhaust
muffler
digital temp/humidity reader
old school thermostat

Very nice setup. 18/6 is really better during vegging to promote rapid growth. A lot of growers use a full 24 hours during vegging.

Hey, thanks a lot! Yeah, the majority of journals I have been reading through do the 18/6 or 24; I want to get the feel of it first and then on my second or third grow I will increase lighting hours to 18/6.

This should be interesting to follow along with. I don't think I have ever seen an indoor tent grow that was outside haha. Would putting a white reflective surface such as panda plastic around the outside of the tent help keep heat down? Idk just a thought as I'm sure that it gets pretty hot outside and in a black enclosed box with a 400 watt HPS the temps might creep to pretty high levels. Keep us posted on your progress and don't forget to put lots and lots of pics lol. Good luck

For sure. I'm not really worried about the heat, I'm more worried about the cold, now that winter is coming. Night temps in South Cali have been in the 50's and day temp in high 60's low 70's.

Do you plan on air cooling your reflector or are you leaving it the way it is so you can keep the temps at a good range?

Leaving as is to keep temps in good range, so far with the light on, temp has been 68-72. I want to say that's a good temp range, correct me if I'm wrong. I'll be posting some pics of the clones I will get on thu or fri, fyi.

That is good, they are a little low but that is good because as the plants develop you should be able to put the light pretty close to 'em. I'll be here for the ride so don't be afraid to ask any questions

**Video added**

Hey everybody, checked on my babies today. One four day old bag seed sprout is already taller and growing side leaves, compared to the kush that has sprouted over two weeks ago(has only been under hps for one week). Friday I picked up an OG Kush clone from my local dispensary and is already starting to get an odor.

Water's ph has been at an average of 5.5-6.5, and today I watered the OG kush clone with grow big nute also wet my fingertips and sprinkled the leaves a bit.

Temps were at tropical levels on Friday and Saturday(low 80's), during dark hours temps have ranged from 55-61F. Other than that day temps average between 64-78f. Light is approximately 10inches from plants.

If I forgot to mention anything let me know, advice is always welcome.

P.S. Just had some purple kush and it is blowing my mind, just added to one of my favorite strains.

Your setup is really good, i'm guessing maybe bring down the light a little closer.

Thanks a lot, today I did put the plants closer. I put them at a level where my hands can feel the heat from the lamp, but not too close where it feels hot.

C'mon people, I need opinions, comments, advice, anything.
An opinion: When you go back to your OP make sure you have a few small fans (not from a computer, in this case) on low, blowing indirectly on the plants.

Comments: Looks real small bro lol just kidding....i don't know what else to say.....i can't see anything visibly wrong.....except maybe the light green color of the plants (which is a joke fyi)

Advice: Well the only thing I can advise you to do/not to do is make sure you check the ph of the water. Also, seeing that they are real small....i'd lightly place (an inch-worth, from what I saw) soil around the stem.

Other than that, you look like you are doing fine :peace:,

Will do, I'll place some soil around the stem tomorrow. LOL you almost got me with the light green leaves, it's easy to trick a beginner. Thanks for your input.

Hello,

everything seems fine if the temps arent creeping up to the 100's with the light and the ballast in there...with no ventilation pulling air out of the box... let alone drawing fresh air... what about the lower holes for intakes... do you have at least mosquito netting installed... or do you just have them closed...

I figure everything is going fine for now due to the temps outdoors these days... but any day that gets in the 80 will have that tent cooking in the 104 range in no time..

24x7 light is recommended during vegging period cause you just want to grow them big and fast.... no need for sleep for weed in the vegging period... when you want to bud is when you want 12/12...

you might want to just veg under cfls or a t5 setup instead of a 400 watt hps.... hell cfls is the cheapest way to go and it wil veg your plants just fine... then transfer to your 400 watt setup to bloom....

Good luck... watch those temps man...

Well I don't know if you saw my entire setup, but I do have an exhaust fan and open two of the side flaps for intake.I figured since this is my first grow I will do 12/12, also to conserve energy. Unfortunately I do not have anymore money to buy equipment and will probably get some t5 in the near future. As for the temps, they are doing great, I have my tent placed under a tree that gives plenty of shade and is usually 10 degrees lower than lighted areas.

Thanks a lot, I'm actually doing some bagseed and OG kush. I had just mentioned Purple Kush because I had smoked some before writing the post. Hopefully I can get my hands on some purple clones for my second grow. Good luck on your grow.

12/12 is for making buds. Not for growing babies.

Before a plant is ready to make babies, it has to be of a certain age or else you'll get one turd bud and some chin whiskers. It's great that you want to start small, but don't start WRONG.

Go to 18/6 for at least a month. Then go 12/12 and the plant will be mature enough to kick off more than an eighth. Go to CFLs if you need to save money. "ON TIME" is the very last thing you should try to cut corners with. You're asking a newborn to spread her legs, and she ain't ready for breeding yet.

Also, watch for males soon after you go to 12/12.
