well as the title says im on my first grow and since to my knowledge high pressure sodium bulbs and stuff can be expensive so i looked into led lights and i found this High Tech Garden Supply its a mixed red/blue spectrum good for all stages but i was wonder how many do i need per plant.

please help,

At just 13 watts, I would assume the lumen output isn't that high. You would probably want at least 2 per plant. I would like to see an "LED only" grow to see how good they really are.

Look into Theoreme Innovation's TI SmartLamp 600 ProBloom. See my Sig. I love mine. Check back for my journals and photos I'll be posting...

If you'll notice, the lamps this guy has got are some serious LEDs! They cost over $1500 for one lamp! If you are finding any LEDs for cheap they are probably knock offs or just aren't good for growing buds. If this is your first grow, save your time and money and just go with some fluoros or compact fluoros (CFLs). They are cheap and work great!

Haha, damn man. You must have some cash lying around to blow, because that is some serious equipment.

Generally speaking though, LEDs will cost more than HPS. The kind you were talking about are the shitty ones. If you want LEDs that will actually grow anything you need either the one GrowGreenGreen linked, or the UFO, or the Procron (or however you spell it). The cheapest of those would probably be the UFO at around $300-400. I got one off ebay, used, for $200.

The UFO is nice, as it requires about a quarter of the energy and produces nearly none of the heat. However, it's still more expensive than a 250w HPS from HTGsupply.com as you can pick one up for roughly around $100.

If you put the same $100 into those LEDs you were talking about, you would get about 1/2 to 1/4 the growth.

i have grown with low watt led panels, and low watt cfls and can say if you are going with the 13 watt led panel treat it like a 13 watt cfl, i have succsessfully vegged some nice plants under 4 of those panels but like cfls they are only really good for supplemental lighting once the plant gets bigger or you need a bunch.

after socket costs plus bulb costs 13 watt cfls are still cheaper by about 5 bucks, but they run a little hotter. its really up to you. but unless you are buying a 300+ led system you are probably better off just going with a 150 hos or a few 80 watt cfls
