First Grow - Photos provided, advise sought

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to share my whole grow with everyone and learn as I go. I have grown a little bit in a closet before so I have all the basics grasped but now I have the space to have 2 rooms dedicated and want to maximise what I can produce. Its still a work in progress and I have only one room (the larger one) finished, so I am working up to full production.

Currently I have 22 purple kush clones in the 8x12ft room that are vegging under 1x 1000 watt hps (I have another 1000watt thats not in use yet). The medium is soil and I have nutrients, ph testers, ppm meter, temp & humidity recorder etc. I could only afford 22 clones for now and I wanted to get started asap. By the time they are ready to flip to flowering I will have the other room finished and am going to cut clones and hold maybe 4/6 plants back and keep them as mothers.

Ultimately what I was considering is this set up, any thoughts?

Veg/Clone room - 3x8 ft floor 7 ft height 1x400watt hps + some fluros
Flower room - 8x12 ft floor 7 ft height 3x1000watt hps

I will have lots of questions along the way so thanks to all who comment!!

Ive had them for 3 days here. When I got the clones they were well rooted in rockwool, so here they are beginning to root in their new pots.

Hi Florida Blooms, damn, I threw out my soil packaging! I used one type for about 16 of them that I cant remember, the rest of them I used 'bells potting soil' from home depot mixed with perlite. A friend recommended that I try Coconut Husk Chips as they are small when dehydrated, so easy to move a large amount into my house without arising suspicion. Has anyone here ever used them on an indoor grow?

Just to catch up to current status since I intended getting this thread started earlier I have added some new photos & I have some questions already!

In the 3rd photo you can see that the leaves have a bit of curvature on the very outside. I was wondering is this normal or could it be that I had the light too close. Its about 32inchs away from the top the leaves? Im currently testing the water ph and ppm so thats fine, but I am just eyeballing how much water they get. Should I set a fixed amount per plant per day and only water at a specific time?

Thanks, oh and these photos are day 7 (in my care)

Day 9/10

I moved the ballast to the next room to try and keep the temp down as I had been seeing some curling in the leaves. Worse on some than others. Ive also raised the light a bit incase the damage was heat related. I also noticed some yellowing on a couple of leaves so Ive attached more photos.

What you want is fine, but if it was mine and I were utililzing the whole room (which you should), I would use two 400's in the veg room and four 400's in the flower room. You'll use less power and still get great results because all of the room will get equal light exposure. I also recommend Hortilux MH and HPS bulbs. Both are more expensive than standard bulbs, but they are outstanding. You will also want to ventilate all of your lights because no matter what configuration you go with, that many lights is gonna get hot as hell, and use carbon scrubbers, cause that shit gonna' stink!! Good luck, looks like you know what you're doing for the most part.

Thanks for the info S'dogg. At the moment I'm limited by my cash flow, so I'll be using the 2x1000 watts for flowering for a few months at least. As soon as I can either clone or buy some new babies I'll be filling the rooms asap ;)

My next big purchase is for sure going to be a 400watt digi ballast & metal hallide to use in my veg room. After that I'll just add to it piece by piece when I get some cash back from cropping. I'll post some photos of the veg/clone space as soon as I get it finished (maybe on the weekend)

For filtering I'm going to build this carbon filer Hopefully that will get me though until I can afford an upgrade.

Day 16

Sorry about the photos, took them with my phone, it didn't like all the light in the room.

Does anyone this I could cut clones of these plants soon, or how long I ned to wait? Thanks : )

Well, with the size of the light youre using you will want big clones.. maybe like 5-8 inches or so. If you can take them that size w/o stripping them then do it yo! .....man i wish I had that much room to grow

are u gonna grow just 22 plants and still use all 3 1000 w
No, these plants will only use 1x1000watt for their lifespan. When I clone and get my second room going I will gradually expand until there will be 22-30 per light in the flower room with another room filled with clones, mothers and vegging plants ready to replace any cropped.
I'm still kind of figuring out how I am going to make it work in sync in terms of timing to get a regular cycle (crop once a month) and the number cuttings I need to make, but thats part of the fun.

sounds like its a work in progress man, plants look real good, best of luck with entire grow!, i myself would like to eventually get couple thousand watters, or like 3 600 watters for my grow room, but we wil see.

@ gotcha1st Thanks for that link, I have already made the other one, but I think I'll put it in my veg room and make the one you recommended for my stinky flowering room.

I'm way behind with photos and news because I had to make the veg/mother room so here are some photos that are about 4 days old. Sorry about these photos, I'm still on camera phone : /

I took 1 or 2 cuttings of each one for clones and cleaned away some rough looking leafs about 2 days before I switched them to 12/12.

I just held back 2 plants for mothers:

I'll post some photos of the veg room and clone cuttings today. Can anyone point me to a site or thread that had a good amount of photos of pot leaves with various problems? I have noticed some discoloration and want to make sure its not a major problem.

Thanks : )
