I am so anxious! It's my first attempt (and apparent failure) at a grow. It is OG Kush started from feminized seeds, they started germination almost 2 weeks ago in water then paper towel and after I got taproots i planted them in regular seedling soil from the store and are now under 400w HPS 18/6 and though very well ventilated it occasionally gets a little hot in there (close to 90 on days when it's hot outside.) I was thinking maybe overwatering so I stopped watering but really I don't know... The top of the soil is dry but I feel some moisture about two inches down. The one seedling lost its leaf one night when my boyfriend blocked the ventilation after I went to sleep and the temp went over 100.

Can the be saved? What should I do? Isn't their growth slow for almost 2 weeks? I'm worried I'm in over my head, I need a grow mentor!

Would it be better to just put them outside until I can get another light or move the light further away?

Ok great I moved the light up to help keep the temp down and misted them which I will try doing more often whenever the top is dry. I really appreciate your help! I know it is probably frustrating for everyone getting similar type questions from newbies

Is your light dimmable? Do you have cfls?

No and no, but I could get CFLs. What would be a good amount of bulbs/watts to get? Should I not use the hps until flowering?
You can use the hps if your temps are cool enough, however 90f on a seedling in intense light will do more harm then good, you can substitute with cfls during the hotter hours of lights on(careful cfls get hot too), and use the hps for 3-4 hours during the colder parts of the light cycle, it will help with temps and it will help harden off those young ones to the HPS. I actually veg all the way with hps but young seedlings in the first few weeks cant really handle high intensity light when temps get that hot.

use a shoplight t8-t12. they work great and don't hardly give off any heat.i use t12 an after a week or 2 I put them under a t5. what money you would save by not using a 400 hps for the first 3-4 weeks would pay for the shoplight. also good for clones(t12)

get a shoplight t12 for about 30$. it will pay for itself by not using the 400 hps for 2-3 weeks(electricity is expensive).if your plant seems to be searching for light(t12, cfls) and stretching like it might eventually topple over, move light closer until you see improvement and put in a paperclip for support if it becomes to top heavy.
