Well I have heard up to a year, but in theory they can live forever. But a year is when most people decide to flower the mother which is a nice yield. Now some mothers will initiate flowering even under 24 hours of light(usually sativas). Most indicas dont do this however.

ahh. thank you blazed, plus rep for the info :) i just thought it could only last for a certain amount of time. now the only info left to research is nutes and fertilizer. (and i thought lighting was complicated lol) while im here tho i was just planning on using "MG Moisture Release", adding some Pearilite, and using some MG Bloom fert or w/e its called and finally flushing. Does this sound legit? Of course im only using these because im on a tight budget and FoxFarms is just too expensive for my blood atm haha.

I sucessfully used the mosture release formula by miracle grow on my first grow. I understand your money issues, however your yield may suffer considering there is little info about how to grow MJ with MG. I only got lke 3 grams off of 3 bonzai plants when i used mg. There were crappy too. I dunno if this is bc of the nutrients as I am growing the same plant under perfect conditions now to see the difference.

EDIT: ALSO do not flush your plants unless nute burn is present!!!! You will fertilize the soil then immediatly take it out by flushing. Also salt buildup can make you have to flush them as well. If they look like they need watering and they are currently wet still, it may be salt buildup

well i dodnt hear too many bad things about it other than its not preffered. and i meant flush it b4 harvest, a week or 2 prior and just water for the rest.

Im doing the same thing. I am using two small reflector lamps about an inch away from mine. (i only have one plant) And the bulbs are the 75 watt equivalent CFLs. It seems to be working WELL!

I wouldn't use the MG soil, if I were you. Got a home Depot near you? Try Scott's Premium Potting Soil - it's what I use, and as cheap as MG soil. As for nutes - google Jack's Classic nutes, they work so much better than the MG nutes and aren't nearly as hars. They are a lot cheaper than most of the popular nutes here, as well. If you can find anyplace near you that sells the stuff, you could eliminate the shipping cost - which doubles the price. If you go that route, get the All Purpose (20-20-20) for veg, and Blossom Booster (10-30-20) for flowering.

scotts premium potting soil is one of the better options to get your feet wet.

it's very VERY light on nutes, and SUPER cheap. around here a 1.5square foot bag costs 2 dollars. compared to 21 dollars for the same bag of Fox Farms Ocean's Forest.

and for nutes i've done both, used cheap and expensive and for now i'm sticking to the expensive ones. my plants look healthier, and i've had a lot less problems using the fox farm line, than when i was using cheap chemical ones....

anyways,

yeah, CFL's give off most light off the sides. but if you get them under a reflector, then you're cool. if not, then put them on the side. there's also some clever beer can DYI reflectors if you're interested. i didn't bother b/c i didn't want to cut myself, you're free to try if you wish.

now, for the smell.

have you thought about this???

and controlling ph. you'll need those drops, or an electronic ph meter. it's gonna be at least 10 bucks....

thank you guys for the help, really. soils and ferts are racking my brain lol. i have a hydro store nearby that im going to check out today, they have all the soil products as far as i know so im gonna check out prices. idk if they sell jacks but i do have a few retailers close by that do (according to the website). as far as the beer can method i havnt heard of that lol, any info you could link me? also as far as the smell, seeing as its a small grow-op im gonna take the cheap route (big surprise lol) and use the febreeze bucket trick ive noticed here on the forums. and yes a ph meter is on my list to get and no i wont skimp out ;)

p.s. + rep for the both of you :bigjoint:

aight well here are some pics of the grow area (finally got that camera), the first is the whole closet which now measures 34.5"x37.5"x71" or approx 3x3x6. Now theres a few things i should mention about these measurements, 1. I removed the trim and thats why the measurements are different than original ones, and 2. its only 71" from ground to shelf cause i figure the top shelf can be used for nutes, supplies etc. or whole nother grow area (for perhaps the mother?)

Now the first pic is of the entire closet, the second is of the floor, and the third is of the shelf area (theres another foot or so you cant see).

Some notes on the second pic of the floor, the squares are approx 1x1 making that 1 square foot each. Their just where the plants will be sitting, also, because i dont have nearly enough money for the lighting required to illuminate a 4 square foot area, i will only be using 1-2 (most likely 2). The rectangle on the far left is where i was originally thinking of putting the mother and build a wall or box there to keep the mother on its 24/0 light schedule, but now that i think of it i could just place the mother on the top shelf and light proof it, idk...

Any input, comments, or suggestions are greatly welcomed and +rep will be handed out accordingly.

:peace:out

It's nice to see someone actually planning this out, before they begin! Well done! I think you're on the right track. One note - for your own future calculations, that area would be roughly nine square feet, not four.

the entire area yes, but just the four squares which are 1x1 then no, it would be four. cause it would be 2x2 and thats 4 right? all together tho yes it would be 9 because 3x3 = 9. i think it was my fault i didnt explain to clear lol. but i have on question, what can i do about ventilation? i mean i cant just cut through the door (i rent), otherwise id install a fan at somepoint, but would opening the door during light time be sufficient enough? i mean the doors not airtight cause its old as you can see lol, but im not sure if the cracks are enough or not.

ps thanks for the compliment, it boosts my morale lol, all this planning an researching will hopefully pay off. I just wish i wasnt on such a budget ;)
