first indoor grow

this is my first grow.. a friend of mine gave me like 8 bag seeds which i experimented different germ techniques on.. i had a terrible rate.. i think most of them were just shitty seeds so i ended up ordering some seeds.. the day after i ordered i checked back on my seeds and got 2 to pop nicely.. they just took some time.. maybe 5 days or so. so right now i built a ghetto box with some cfls.. im going to add a fan within a day or 2 as well as some additional lighting.. im not looking for anything huge out of this grow.. just some personal...

so, ive got 2 bag seeds going. and within a couple weeks ill have probably 2 early misty plants going... ill be happy even with just 1 female on this grow.

:leaf:

pic of my setup... dont laugh, im proud of it.

any comments are welcome

how close do you have your cfls to the plants?? what spectrum are they??
i dont really have plants yet.. they are just about to break the soil .. they are pushing up.. but the lights are about a foot away at this point... should i put em closer?? ive only got like 50 watts of total light in there.. which is why i said im going to add more.. i think its enough to start my grow.. i think they are like 1200k.. dont really know much about these cfl's.. any advice on which i should pick up?

u need to put those way closer since its such a low wattage .. i used two 26 wat equivalent to 200 watts and they worked pretty good juss closer

so, i went to the store and picked up a couple of daylight 40wat cfls.. the ones i had were soft light.. so ill use those for flowering... i have them on 24hr lighting right now.. by tomorrow i think i should have one plant fully sprouted is it ok to than change to a light cycle like 18/6?? thats what i want to do but just wanted to get them out of the ground first

yea man, you can go straight into veg when they sprout. and you will probably need some more lights for flowering. :leaf:

ok, thanks.. i plan on getting more lighting and possibly changing my set up cause i dont think it will be big enough.. im going to keep them plants as small as i can.. gunna go for the bush look... we'll see. my plant has sprouted.. it looks like it dropped the seed shell alittle early.. it just doesnt look fully developed yet.. im going to post a pic and let me know what u guys think.. is it ok?? its been in dirt for 48 hours now after being germed... should i wait another 24 hours before going into veg cycle?

clear containers are not good to use for planting because the roots do not like light! foil also not the best to use for a relfective surface. i stick with xmas wrapping paper 2x thick it is a good substitute for mylar. the cfl's you should be using are the 25w 6500k daylight bulbs. good luck!

if there is green showing above the dirt your good to go for the veg cycle my man. i cant really tell from the pic but it looks to be alright. Just give the girl lots of light. and dont over water!!! move the plant as close as you can to the light. Remember to check for heat though, as long as it isnt too hot then you can put the bulb as close as you want. Which is really important to you if your wanting shorter bushier plants. :leaf:

i've found its usually better to keep a good mix of bright white to soft white light. Some people say to only use daylight bulbs during veg, but just keep a good ratio of daylight to soft light bulbs and you will be just fine. afterall, photosynthesis uses four different light spectrums. So you can always try your best to hit all of them. Peace :leaf:

thanks for the feedback guys.. the only reason im worried about the plant is because once it broke through the ground and stood up straight it hasnt moved much in a day.. the leaves are still curled under and havent lifted up yet.. as u might be able to see in the pic.. i might try to put the lights alittle closer.. we'll see how it looks in the morning.. ill update with pics soon.
