First Small Grow

So this is my very first grow with soil.

I have germaniated with three seeds and only two of them showed signs of life. After the roots got big enought I put one of them in Peat pellet and the other one went in Merical Grow soil. I only have a 23 watt cfl in the container. They have been growing for about five days. Germinated on the 5th.

Yesterday I had to move the plants so that they would be growing twards the light and not into the soil/pellet. After the stress that they had to endure was over they perked up niceley.

And this is where I am at now.

Looks good so far! Ur def gunna want to get more lights, but u should be good for now.
Also if you can lower the light or raise the plant that would keep them from stretching....
You don't want that, it'll get too top heavy and fall over once u start flowering.......

But I'll be around to watch.... fell free to ask me anything........ I'll let u know what I know, and if I don't I'll try and find the answer for u......

Sounds good to me. The reason that it is streaching right now is because the top of the plant was growing into the soil and I moved it so that the top of the plant was growing twards the light and that is why I think that it is so big.

Right now the light is about 1/4 in ontop of the plant. I am just using regular tap water on it. I dont have a Ph tester right now.

Here is a picture of what it looks like now.

Thx for the help.

That's a decent distance.... You can keep CFL's close as hell to the plants without having to worry about burning them.

Rule of thumb, as u've probably already read, is u hold ur hand between the top of the plant and the light and u can stand the heat then it's ok for the plant.

That's the only thing I use is water right outta the tap. No Ph tester either. I'm guessin it's good, cuz I haven't had any water related problems.....

That is true about the water. I have herd about the rule of thumb about the lights. I have one question about it tho?

Will the plant still grow with the light right on top of it or no?

Other than that I think that I am good for now.

Thx for the help.

Koo. Now all that I need to do is to keep it small enought to keep it hidden

Yep, that's it..... You can train ur plant to wrap around the circumference of ur pot so that by the end ur top will be right in the center......

I didn't go that far, but if I would have kept at it then it would have ended up that way.....

If u want u can scroll thru my thread and see how I LST'd my plants......

On top of that, If you veg for a short period of time then u can keep them short that way too....... It all depends on hoe short is short for u....

I have read through your thread and been on the FAQ on this site also. I think that I will be doing both of them to keep them around 1-2 feet high or shorter.

Thx for the info

yeah man, with those lights you should see a huge improvement, especially compared to that 23w... I'm looking forward to a solid update.

Ok so I went to the store yesterday and got some 42 watt cfls and a dual light socket converter. (will post pics later) I did not have a heat issue befor but with the new lights the heat went from low to 70 really quickly when I put them in the container yesterday. I also got a light timer so that when I am ready to flower I will not have to remmber when to turn it on and when to turn it off.
So now I have a probelm with my baby. I am getting a little spot on the tip of one of my leaves but I cant seem to figure out what the problem is?

Is that the plant in the MG soil?
If it is, it'll happen with MG. That's what I'm usin and even now, I'm still gettin the occasional MG leaf burn spots.
If it persists and spreads then you should look into the FAQ about plant problems and see what that has to say. But it can be expected with MG all the way thru the grow...... Don't stress too much about it......

Thanks for the info. I did not know that MG could do that so quickly. But ya it is only on the tip of one of the leaves.

ive been using MG soil and i havent had any burn, but then again, i did soak mine with filtered water and let it sit for about a day... so maybe that's what did it for me. So if i was to give advice with small grows and using MG soil i would say soak it first with filtered water...

So today I went out and got another 42 watt cfl. Hoping that it will make a difference. It is placed on the right side of the other lights in the picture. I will post a pic later.

I think that I have a proble.
The tempturs right on top of my plant is like 96F. I know that it should be at 75F. So here is my question, should I raise the lights that I have up a little bit or put some holes in the container that they are in?

You should get two small fans, 1 for blowing on to the plant which makes the plant nice and strong and one for extraction, that should take care of your heat issues.
