First time Bubbleponics grow.

I successfully grew an outdoor (bag seed) plant last summer (5.5 ounce yield) but now am trying indoor. This is my setup.

Stealth Hydro - Dual Spectrum Bubbleponics kit

Right now I only have one of the lights on because I am waiting for a replacement as one was broken in transit.

Schedule:

  • Currently I'm following SH nutrient regimen which had me give them nuts every 10-14 days.. flushing before new nuts are added.

  • The lights are on 20 hours and off for 4 during veg.

  • Watering is all the time at the moment. The lines from the pump are directly in the rock wool squares.
Problems - I think I'm getting root rot. the roots are getting brown at the top near the net pots. The roots in the water are nice and white. Some of the larger leaves are a little brittle at the ends and curling on the edges.

Questions:

  1. How often should I have the pump run from now on to prevent the root rot?
  2. Should I adjust the nuts?
  3. Should I give them less light to allow them rest?
  4. Based on how big my outdoor plant got I'm assuming the current setup will not allow all 6 of these plants to grow to full size. If not when should they be moved to larger hydro buckets?

is your rockwool submerged? The color could just be from the nutes you use. Be careful with the PH in the water as it will be diff from the PH of your rockwool cubes to prevent that what I like to do in the sprouting stage is remove the rockwool completely from the cubes as delicate as I can and just let the roots sit on the Hydroton rocks 1/2 submerged in the dwc. This works especially well with well rooted clones.

Pumps should run 24/7 days a week?
PH between 5.5 and 6.5 should be maintained for best root/nute intake. I did not notice you talk about your PH that is CRUCIAL in DWC/Bubbleponics.

Each rockwool has a tube in it so they stay wet. The water is 2-3 inches below the net pots.

Are you saying I should leave the pump on 24/7? Shouldn't the top roots be allowed to dry a little?

The Ph is about 6.0 right now.

You can ditch the tubes all together since the roots are in the water, thats what i did witht he same setup, now i use the pump with an aquarium chiller...
If you run out of space you can setup a 5 gal bucket and transplant one or two, 4 females should be fine in the system (from what I have read)
They dont need to rest, lights on 24/0 works great.
You can use hydrogen peroxide a few times a week or even daily to help with the root rot, make sure you give it a good clean and change out the nutes. There is a good 8 step method to clean the system on one of roseman's threads.

Questions:

  1. How often should I have the pump run from now on to prevent the root rot?...24/0..ONLY USE 1 TUBE PER GROW CUP. MORE IS NOT BETTER AND BUTT THE TUBES UP AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE ROCKWOOL TUBES ABOUT 1/2 WAY DOWN THE CUBE.
  2. Should I adjust the nuts?...YOU MIGHT WANT TO BE AROUND 500-600 PPM AT THEIR GROWTH STAGE (EARLY VEG)
  3. Should I give them less light to allow them rest?...NO, THEY WILL VEG FASTER WITH 24/0 - LIGHTS ON 24 HRS.
  4. Based on how big my outdoor plant got I'm assuming the current setup will not allow all 6 of these plants to grow to full size. If not when should they be moved to larger hydro buckets?...YOU CAN GROW 6 PLANTS 3-4 FT, BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO MANAGE GROWTH BY VARIOUS MEANS: TRIMMING,TOPPING, LST'ING,CROPPING
THIS IS MY 3RD SH GROW AND I DONT THINK THAT'S ROOT ROT BUT, IF YOU'RE HAVING ROOT PROBLEMS NOW, REPLINISH THE NUTES. YOU CAN ADD 1 TSP/GAL OF H2O2 OR I USE SM-90. JUST PUT IT IN AND LEAVE IT. ADD IT WITH EACH RES CHANGE. IT WONT HURT YOUR PLANTS IF USED AS SUGGESTED. YOU HAVE A FAN BLOWING ON THE RES TO HELP KEEP TEMPS DOWN? THAT HELPS.
YOU ALSO NEED MORE LIGHT OR BRING THE LIGHT CLOSER TO THE PLANTS, THEY NEED MORE LIGHT AND YOUR ROOTS ARE UNDERDEVELOPED FOR THE SIZE OF THE PLANTS. ADD MORE VEG LIGHT QUICKLY~~~~~~~~~THE PIX OF THAT 1 LEAF LOOKS LIKE IT WAS PHYSICALLY DAMAGED, BUT THE REST LOOK OKAY EXCEPT FOR THE STRETCHING AND MORE LIGHT WILL FIX THAT...LUCK:bigjoint:

I soak the Rockwool cubes in pH5 water for 24-48 hrs before I use them and have never had a problem.

I second that. One thing to keep a close eye in is the water temperature. Probably already been said but it's worth saying twice. Keep the water temp around 65 F.
