18 on and 6 off works pretty good until your ready to flower.
You're partially correct I think... If you do 18/6 for the first couple weeks, then start 24/7 light the plants grow rapidly. This is just from my personal experience so far though.

For Vegging, 24/0 or 18/6 works good.
For Flowering 12/12

There is variations on the way you use the light cycles depending on person
as Hobthebob stated he likes to do first two weeks with 18/6 then switch
to 24/0. I myself would go the other way round and do 24/0 the first 2 - 4
weeks then switch to 18/6.

Then for flowering "Whenever your plants are at half the desired size" switch to 12/12.

yeah, i got another question... do halogen flood lights give off too much heat? and if u can use em how helpful are they... what would u suggest me using for the first week. so far they are about 2 inches big and im just using a 40 watt bulb, feedback would be much appreciated

they are in the wrong spec of light as well as the radiate way to much heat, more the small ineffective HPS will do. halogen just burn stuff without doing any good at all, so if you use one now kick it out and replace it with a so-called "cool white" 6500K CFLs. or get fancy and buy a MH, but it isn't really worth the money as long you go smaller the 400W!

thanks a lot, i also started growing them in crappier soil, couldnt get my hands on pete moss pellets so is there a way i can transplant my babies into better soil without destroying the roots? and are there any important nutes i should be using?

let the soil dry up, dig generous your plant out of the old soil and into the new and done;)

no nutes till week 3-4 for soil grown plants and then only good stuff and no time released nutes or i personally spank you for it!

since im only growing two plants is the 6500k CFL appropriate?

sure it is, i don't use much more than that too. get at least on per plant you want to grow and about 17W or bigger, 42W would harm at all and the difference in tag is marginal;)

i got a "Cool White" f15T8 Fluorescent light today. 825 lumens, 15 watts 4100k. is this idea for 2 plants on their second week?

good advice on the lighting, im pretty sure thats what im about to be doing, the switch from 24/0 to 18/6. its been only 2 weeks so far, so i think i might continue with the 24/0 for another week or so and then switch over. im just trying to get a good feel for what the majority of people find to be working for them. im only growing some sort of mid grade bud, but i dont think that makes a difference with the lighting schedule. +rep gvien
