First time growing, went a little overboard with defoliation. Never expected my girls to do this

Definitely one of the FAT bud types there looking like major flowering.

I can tell you My plant had at least 3 times that many Fan leaves.

That thing looks like it was eating fan leaves...;)
It is a Blue Lemon Thai and this one looks and smells mostly like sour diesel.

It only had about 35 days of veg before its long stay in the flower room.

I can show a fatter leaf thicker canopy plant but the results are the same.

His plants were not going to produce a very high volume regardless but no I don't think the OP benefited at all from doing this and actually probably added 7-10 days to his flower. The bud-sites need to developed before stretch starting about 2 weeks before flip. I welcome you to come back and see my harvest brother. It is not about bigger buds, it is about efficiency of space. The only thing I truly know is that I don't know everything, so I welcome your feedback, even if it is an antagonistic view like I have seen from you.

Exactly...A lot can depend on lighting....strain....etc...getting bud sites in optimal lighting will produce better buds.

If I grow that under my 130 watts or so I bet it looks nothing like that. ;)

I know for a fact I cannot do 35 days veg than 13.5 weeks flowering.....THAT'S JUST TOO LONG.

For someone with lot's of room sure. A small 2x2 tent? not gonna happen when I need a 1-2 ounces monthly and can only harvest 2.5 ounces......period.

I didn't mean too. The better I get at this the longer the sativa heavy hybrids seem to want to continue their growth spurts. And they keep getting more potent as they get bigger. So I left one to flower longer than I usually would and it just kept stacking.

Their trichomes sometimes never show a clear finishing point. And this BLT started making colored transparent purple, amber and sort of pink resin glands in the last few weeks. Along with still clear and cloudy ones.

Never degraded brown even at 13.5 weeks.

Real strong sativa expression but with heavy weight. I love Pete at CH9 seeds.

Oh and Op I think they look fine and will fatten up nice and dense with all the light hitting them.

The way I look at it every method has it's time and place....You just have to make sure for the type of strain you are growing you understand when those time and places are.

here check this out :D not for the faint of heart if you are one of the fan leaf lovers. :P

all my posts are public record, not sure an "antagonist view" is an accurate one, I am confident a neutral bystander would see that, perhaps we just have differing concepts and techniques.

if defoliating works for you, then go ahead.
I could list a myriad of allllll sorts of techniques that people swear by, I just choose to stick to basic science and horticulture.
bloom busters, flushing, having 10 different bottles for different "stages"..
do what you want my friend, it's like trying to convince you to have different favorite foods, you like what you like.

I just have little patience for advice that is detrimental to new growers, so if you view that as having a "antagonist view" then that's your perception.

How do people learn the best? From my experience it is by studying, learning, applying information, etc....and Failing.

I think people learn more about cannabis plants attempting things and watching the reactions rather than going by some guy says buy fox farms and dump in A & B every 3 days.....and wait.

I can respect someone willing to take chances and show people what happens.

It may or may not be better or just be the same...the journey is what's fun! :D

For me? I have no Quota's I don't sell anything so I have no need for plants that make one pound. I can only have 2.5 ounces by LAW.

So taking chances and seeing results is fun.

comparing apple trees to cannabis, is like um
comparing apples to cannabis.
certain plants benefit from this technique, roses in particular
but not cannabis
I disagree and I believe cannabis farmers have a lot to learn from other industries and farmers.

ok cool, then grow your own plants the way you like.
It's not something I believe in, and having a link to fruit trees isn't relevant
do you think pruning cannabis increases fructose development in the buds?
umm..
do what you like, theres many, many, many side-by-side tests and defoliating is NOT going to get you bigger yields
if you do it to combat mold, or to ease your trimming? then sure, there is an allure there
but it is NOT going to get you bigger yields.
nor "better" yields in terms of quality.

also, you may want to check out some science books
the sugars created by photosynthesis are transported throughout the plant via the xylem and phloem
its not a static type thing...
sooo... yea..

defoliation is a legitimate practice. but lets face it, op is on his first grow. he isnt in an apple orchard. he doesnt know how to grow cannabis yet. he was counting on experienced growers to shine some light on his first atttempt.
defoliation techniques are the Last grow habit op needs to be concerned with.
asshats decided to play a joke on op and his first grow, costing him many months and loads of medicine. shame on anyone who conspired against op.

I have disagree with everything you have said sorry there are people who have proven you wrong.

As far as leaves and plants???? If the Starter fans leaves are so important how come the plant doesnt die?

You want me to tell you what I think the big fan leaves do? make branches.

Once you have all the branches you want or the plant itself is done making them, do you really need them?

Seems to me plenty of folks have shown you don't.

So continue your growing by the ABC's if you want...I and others will continue the journey of exploring, learning, and having fun.

Yea..
i'm totally wrong, you are right
keep on defoliating...less leaves will get you bigger nugs and plants, makes total sense.
my growing isn't by the "ABC's" my man
its by damn near 30yrs of growing and experimenting, failing, succeeding and paying attention
also helps if you pick up a book every now and then too

Have you ever been wrong? I doubt enough to admit it. Your shit must smell of roses and comfrey
i didn't get personal with you, you are the one that seems to be having ass-pain
it's just facts man, I didn't discover this, not saying I'm smarter than anyone else, i'm not attacking you at all.
it's just factual
I like factual shit
my bad for appreciating accuracy..

yrs ago I was VERY wrong about using black strap molasses as a source for micronutrients
I was WRONG about using peat based mixes with only oyster flour as the liming ingredient
i was WRONG in thinking coco and peat are similar in their CEC
shit man.. nobody is perfect
facts are facts, and i like them
no need to be enemies

Many good reasons to defoliate in the room shown. Light penetration from the ceiling of a warehouse. Air flow needs to get all the way in and around the plants etc.

Ok so what parts of the plant contain THC?

Which parts of the Plant have Stomata's?

Which part of the plant can do Photosynthesis?
