I put together a buy list sourcing from Home Depot and my local hydro store

6CF Rice Hulls $45 (actually a 7CF bag)
6CF CSPM $22
3CF BUs Blend $60
3CF Earth Worm Castings (3) 30# bags $60

$187

$77 17.5CF coots nutrient and mineral kit at kisorganics

--------------
$264

Has anyone used the mineral kit from KIS? It sounds dirt cheap. Sourcing everything together is way more expensive. Like by a lot.

I was also told to not include aeration (rice hulls in my case) into my calculations for the minerals/amendments.

This is what the website says:

In this Nutrient and Mineral Pack you will receive the following:
For Blending and Topdressing:

Malted Barley
For Mixing in Soil (per cubic foot):
1 cup Crustacean Meal
1 cup Kelp Meal
1/2 cup Neem Cake
1/2 cup Karanja Cake
1 cup Basalt
1 cup Gypsum
1 cup Calcium Carbonate (Ag Lime)

Also anything you would buy differently based on your experience.

Ive heard of using 20% of mix as compost due to how dense it gets.

I'm mixing up a similar amount of soil now. You're lucky could could find all of that locally, the price for similar stuff online is disheartening to say the least. Are you doing pots or a bed? I'm going to try some biochar this time around.

I was going to do pots. But my friends whose house im growing at suggested digging holes. Last time he grew outside he said he had issues with them blowing over.. Either way the grass is dead underneath so im on the fence. Not sure it will breath as well as in pots.

A bed would be cool but it would need to bed too large and require a lot of resources. Im doing 12 plants outside

Just a red kneck tip. 1/2 bag of this to 30 gallon batch is very satisfying. Cheaper than bio. And a better variety for root fungi than most hardwood lump charcoals. Just a frugal tip and hello.

Peace and success. 010.jpg

Well the strain im growing grew to be 4 ft indoors and was a 4x4 surface area. Just figure outdoors would grow too be bigger? This was in DWC though.

So does my mix look ok before I drop $280
Overly complex in my world. I try hard to simplify in my lazy years. And cut costs. Will take some math and understanding to balance those. All great once figured out.

I now mix 4 substrates and 4 amendments. Just add water unless I want to push things. Just a top dress at 5-6 week mark if not.

And keep your defol and topping at half or less of your finish height target. Monsters are unavoidable outdoors. LMAO. 003.jpg

Too full for my piece of mind with our mold levels. LOL.

Really basic mix. Accurate substitutes are acceptable for all but the peat. It must be from the Great Lakes. SW MI preferred.

Amends are Boogie brew 2 part dry tea, boogie black and Coast of maine "Stonington Blend" lobster/ kelp fert. Simple and accessible.

Yeah this will be in Massachutts. Mold is definitely a concern. May pick a different strain.

I am getting more clones Friday so maybe ill run one of those.

Also getting some gods critical from JOTI but thats seed form. Hear that finishes in 50 days. Avoid the rainy PM season
