Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has used a carbon filter such as this. Just wondering it would would work similar to the barrel style ones which take up much more room.

there's a filter like this on the market... with several trays inside.
each tray with a load of carbon pellets.

its for hanging up, rectangular box, not truly flat.

I've built numerous home-made carbon filters and can honestly say that they don't do shit. Go to a grow-store and pick up a can carbon filter.....it weighs about 20 lbs or more...it takes that much carbon to filter out bud stink.

No reason that won't work, use enough carbon with enough air flow and you should be good. I'm not a fan of the big cylinders and planned on doing something similar. I was planning on ducting from the end though instead of the fans on the sides.

You'd want to make sure your fans are powerful enough to push threw the filter.

The cylinders are way to big and too hard to hang.

A friend of mine made a barrel style one that scrubs really well and he isn't pulling the air through 2in of activated carbon. If were to make her 24in wide, put the intakes at the extents of each side and the exhaust fans in the mid at the back the air would pull through about 4 solid inches of AC. I guess ill just have to try it and see. Not really sure how much cfm ill need but 2 -10 blade 110 cfm 110mm case fans should hopefully work. Keep in mind this is for a 1-2 plant micro box.

Hi. The secret is not to leave airpocket in the carbon. To pack it well I im using vibration plate. I buy good carbon and my home made filter last at least 2 years.
