flip flop relays

i'm setting up a grow with 2 rooms on a flip flop and i want to know what relays will work for 240v. (trying to run two 12/12 lights off one ballast running 24/0)

also how would the timer be powered? it would it go upline after the ballast but before the lights so i'm assuming since i'm using 240v digital ballast, i can't use my 120v timers, sound right?

last question would i be able to use 1 timer on all the ballast through jumpers or something or would i have to use a separate timer for each ballast..

thanks

I build custom flips and controllers, ask me anything about flips.

hmmmm i thought i did....but basically i'm going to be using (10) 1000w lights (5) in each room...it will be running off 240v 8 outlet switch box ran from the range outlet... what's a good relay to use for this load... will i need a timer for each of the (5) ballast or can i run one timer in series with all of them? any info you can give me on setting up a relay would be appreiciated, thanks

The relay that you use for the Flip, should be rated for at least 600V. The loadcenter for your 240V ballasts, one timer can control a double pole contactor rated for the FLA of your ballasts. The 240V AC for your ballasts, has nothing to do with the relay needed to switch between the two bulbs. There is only ONE relay that will work for this application. I will post a pic of what the relay looks like, but you can google "NTE R04-11A30-120. This relay is rated for 600V continuous and will handle the 5KV spikes from 1000W ballasts.

Those are the ones BWD. Some people swear they can use cube style relays, but in my experience I've never found any other relay that can handle the voltage loads. The relays you have handle 600V @ 10A, 20A, or 30A. The lamp has three different voltages applied to it, at different times. The relays will last at least a couple years before the contact points are burnt and carboned. Until then, those relays are the ones. Good luck on your build.....

I wish Flips would start showing up in more European indoor gardens. If you have 10 or more ballasts, you can half that and have two 12/12 rooms for vegging. If you want to run an 18/6 flower cycle, the Flip can be built to flip half the bulbs in each garden, for the extra 6 hours needed for flower cycle.
