Flip

hi guys, as I’m new to the great indoors, hoping for some advice: can I flip when just calyx are showing or do I definitely need to wait for preflowers to appear
Is it too early to flip now (can it lead to hermies)?

Soz for being thick; this is my plant at the moment :BE31C775-0A17-4334-8465-BEAF3FC220A8.jpeg
I know i should fill the net more and then flip; a fella on riu suggests to fill the net 2/3, but I’m a bit worried about the stretch as I’m growing an almost pure Sativa in a 3x3x 5ft high growroom, and I keep hearing stories of people’s jungles, that’s why I’m thinking of starting to flower now.

Stupid idea?

Good netting ... and a very similar mesh. Using 2 1/2" squares with 1x1 frames.

As you can see, I am also one who believes you should fill the net to 2/3 (minimum...) before you flip. Here they are just woven into the net:

... and 13 days later:

I'll do one final weave just prior to flip in two days (Aug 1). I get about 18" to 20" flower stretch with these strains. Fill thy netting, sir! You'll be glad you did.

When u fill the screen, do u weave each shoot coming through or just the main ones?

I weave each shoot that's poking 3" above the netting. It needs to be at least 3" since the spacing in my mesh it 2.5". And interestingly, a shoot that you weave through today might produce another shoot that you will end up weave through later.

Just keep weaving ... just keep weaving ... weaving ... weaving ... weaving ...

When the net is almost completely covered with woven plant shoots - flip. After flower stretch, I go and look for any little branches that are going to be light squeezed as the buds from the bigger branches fill out. I snip them weak siblings right off - why prolong the inevitable, as it were.

Hi again, Screen is about 50% full. Do u cut off the shade leaves below the shoots?
I started to, but wasn’t 100% sure...
