I just moved to florida From Iowa,And The soil here is fuckin gross 90% sand.....is it possible to grow in the sand or should i miss it with top soil..or jus to use soil.i heard from locals that sand helps drain and lets the roots breathe better.

I wouldn't use just the sand but yeah mix some into your medium or use a thin layer on the bottom of it! I would put some into a jar with water and PH it before planting in it! Some people even put a layer of sand on top of their medium!

I lived there my whole life! Just moved from there last Year! After the Oil Spill! But just telling people to plant in the sand and go with it is pretty vague info!

the dirt in florida is all sugar sand. i use 25% native dirt (which has a lot of sand in it) and 75% topsoil. when i look for native dirt i look down by the water or low lying areas where its actual dirt and its brown or black. theres plenty of sand in the native topsoil when you can find it. but i think its worth going out and lookin for it and finding it though

first of all, I never knew there was a Nederland in some state, lol ... are there many dutch there?

about the post, i thought that the more direct sun, the better...and the plant will need water once the upper soil layer gets kinda crusty...

thats what ive read and people have told me...according to your post, this is not true then..

I never amended anything except my garden area which was in use year round.
Look around you it's a jungle, pretty much plant paradise.
I'm not sure how you amend the ph in sand that gets several feet of rain a year, anything you put downs gonna be temporary.
Unless yer right on the coast and have salt issues the plants will do great.

Go ahead plant in direct sun and directly in the sand! No need for a neutral PH to get your plants off to a clean healthy start! Good Luck!

Nederland Colorado! Not the Netherlands! Look it up! Here is a link for wiki! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nederland,_Colorado

Read the part about legalization of marijuana! Now you know!

This is a good one too from Rolling Stone magazine http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2010/11/marijuana_rolling_stone_new_york_times_tout_nederland_as_a_weed_wonderland.php

Weed wonderland I believe we are called

We are legal across the board! Do your homework!

wow wow wow, my intentions werent for you to school me my friend.

I saw Nederland and said I didnt know there was a Nederland in the US ... thats it...im from the Netherlands Antilles, in the Caribbean... see what i mean?

btw, thank you for the wiki read. so the name Nederland is after all thanks to the dutch.

"In 1873, the Caribou Mine was sold to the Nederland Mining Company from the Netherlands. Middle Boulder became known amongst the miners as Nederland, which means low lands in Dutch due to the 2,000 foot elevation difference between the mine and the mill. In 1885 the town was incorporated and Nederland was finally established as the official name."

Man I am sorry! Ever since I came to these forums and have tried to help people, I get mostly bashed from some random dude with a hard on for putting people down! Seems more like some kind of pissing contest going on round here more than anything! I was honestly trying to help this bro, but then there always comes "that guy"! Put in your two cents, sure, but standing on peoples head so they can feel high and mighty about themselves is so freaking middle school! So........ I have put in my two cents.

Honestly! I thought you were bashing were I am at! Sorry for the misunderstanding! And Saint0241- Good Luck!
