Flowering?/AeroPonics

2 questions.

I just joined yesterday and I'm suuuper excited about AeroGarden, I just hope some mothers of USA group doesnt get wind of things and decides to protest this thing before I can actually afford to get one (End of January).

My Questions are..

1.) What is flowering? I've seen one video and as far as I understand, flowering = budding? People on these boards have been talking about flowering like the grower is responsible for 'flowering' the plant after a certain period of growth in AeroGarden. (2-3 weeks?)

2.) I know I need to also buy seeds and FoxFarm nutes, but what kind do I pick up, and how the hell am I supposed to understand that confusing feeding chart lol? I know it's probably a lot easier than I think, would someone be willing to enlighten me, just a little bit? Thanks in advance.

Ok i will help you out greatly. Pump the brakes a little bit and just do tons more of reading/research before you buy or start anything. Im saving you from failure. Read the FAQs they will help.

ok friend, no offense, but that doesn't help me at all lol. I have/continue to read the faqs and videos and other 'growing bibles' that I've found on torrent and afficianado sites like this, and yes, they've been veeeerry helpful. I feel like I can actually do this, and although not easily, DEFINITELY in a less complicated way than I was think about before. So yeah.

However, I still haven't found a simple and concise answer to the whole flowering thing. It seems like a pretty easy concept, but I have yet to grasp it. The search function doesn't work very well, sorry mods. When you flower, it not the same as cloning, right? Does it mean that I just change the type of lighting when the growth reaches its peak, so it buds better??

EDIT: Love your sig by the way. So true! Not me of course....

Hello, id ... hope all is going well with you.

Flowering is caused when the length of the light period is cut back to twelve hours on and twelve hours off ... known as 12/12.

The plants vegetate under 18 hours on and 6 hours off. Known as 18/6.

What you are actually doing is duplicating Mother Nature. When the lights are on 18/6, the plants "think" it is Spring and Summer. When you turn the lights back to 12/12, the plants "think" its Fall and that they have to start reproducing because they will die in the next 90 days. That's why they grow flowers. Under the 12/12 cycle, the males grow pollen sacs and the females grow sticky flowers to catch the pollen in the air that's been released by the males. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? *lol*

The vegging period in an indoor grow is usually determined by how much head room the grower has in his/her cabinet, as the plants stretch anywhere from from 2 to 3.5 times what they were at the start of 12/12.

On your seed and fertilizer question ... sorry, but I don't use Fox Farms, so I know nothing about the feeding schedule. Maybe someone else will pop in here and answer the question. There's some good info on the Aerogarden in the Hydro Forum ... you may find the answer there. Good luck ...

THANK...YOU. What an articulate and succint answer. That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. What the person under you fails to understand is that not everyone has tons of time on their hands, although I don't expect everyone to show me exactly what to do, I think when in confusion, it's apt to throw some help. Am I wrong? Thanks again mate, I'll smoke to you when I've taken care of everything. Cheers. :blsmoke:

Well not trying to offend you but I am just trying to help you. The questions you are asking are very basic parts to growing. There is tons of knowledge to learn when it comes to growing. i just suggest taking time to read up a bit more before you try anything. You will be much happier. Take it from a person that has made the same mistake his first time...if i only knew what i know now..

As far as your fox farm chart. It is pretty easy to read. On the top it shows you what nute(s) to use. On the left hand side it shows you which week to start/stop using them. You should use this feeding chart in a every other water schudule. I hope this helps you...Good luck

He's not lying. If you really searched for budding or flowering and couldn't find anything, I'm not sure what you were reading. Best of luck, but I got a feeling it's definately going to take you a couple tries...
