flowering and nutes

hello all in RIU! Got a question. I'm thinking of cloning some trimmings, however, i need to determine which ones are males and females first. Was thinking of just cutting down the lights , however, not adding any of the flowering nutes. so my question is has anyone tried , or will they still sex without adding the extra nutes that is recommended when going into flower?

Don't know if this will help but why not just take your clones keep track of what clones came from what plant then flower your others while your clons root. Plant turns male destroy it with it's clones. Save a couple of your best looking clones for moms and your off to the races. Now with that being said I'm stoned and a noob so ya know
