Flowering

I have four plants, two sativa predominant, two 50/50 sativa/indica. I switched them to 12/12 light two weeks ago today, but only one sativa plant has begun flowering (and doing a really great job of it) while the other three show no signs of flowers. All are under the same conditions. Why should those three refuse to flower?

Genetics is the first most likely thing.

even switching the lights the plants will not start to flower until they reach genetic maturity. For some plants, especially sativas, that can take longer than others.

The second big thing that can impact this issue is climate/grow environment. Low temperatures in particular will slow down the processes in the plant. That includes its ability to transition into flower production.

flowering doesn’t instantly start when you flip the lights. It takes time for the plant to build up hormones and reach a tipping point. At which time it begins reproductive based growth rather than vegetative growth.

that’s a big reason I discourage new growers from getting in the habit of “counting flower time”, especially from when the lights get changed.

Climate wise lowest temps are 62⁰F overnight and 78⁰F daytime. And of course for all four plants.
I'm not a week counter. Counting weeks is like thinkin something is wrong because yer kid didnt walk at exactly nine months. I'm just comparing among the four plants experiencing a common environment. In the past, when switching to flower light all of the plants showed flowering within a few days of each other.
So should I just be patient and let er buck?

Being patient and seeing what happens is the only option really.

how long did they veg for before you flipped them? Genetic maturity was definitely my first thought. Every plant is different from seed especially. If you run clones they are already mature so they usually will switch to flower more consistently. Some plants are still faster at that transition then others though.

Went to 12/12 light seven weeks after the germs broke soil. The mostly sativa are my first time with the strain. The 50/50 hybrid has flowered before at seven weeks. Just gotta wait n see, I guess.
