ok, i been reading the f.a.q.

and it says..........

Fluorescents: 60-70 lumens/watt

this post has 2 parts to the math, as i am using(3) 5 ft fluros for the top,

and (2) 4 ft fluros that hang down front and back,

heres the maths read it, check it tell me if its enough for my grow space pls.

REMEMBER Fluorescents: 60-70 lumens/watt
-----------------------------------------------
PART 1 ( THE 5 FOOTERS)

i have (3) 58 w white fluros

60 lumens x 58w = 3480.... TIMES THIS BY 3 FLURO STRIPS = 10440 LUMENS
-----------------------------------------------------
PART 2 ( THE 4 FOOTERS)

60 LUMENS X 36W = 2160 LUMENS

TIMES THIS BY 2 FLURO STRIPS = 4320 LUMENS
---------------------------------------------------------
SO MY COMPLETE LUMEN OUT PUT FOR ALL OF THESE 5 STRIP LIGHTS

= 14760 LUMENS IN MY GROW SPACE

MY GROW SPACE IS ABOUT 1.5 METRES SQUARED

IS THIS ENOUGH LUMENS FOR MY GROW SPACE ?

AND BTW IM GROWING A MAX OF 12 PLANTS AT ANY ONE TIME

THANKS, PLS HELP

I think you need to consider beyond lumens, and into penetration. You can probably come up with a great lumen count with fluoros, but the penetration is simply not there. Unless you are using T5HO tubes, even still, its ill compared to HPS.

How tall are you planning to make these things?

One tried and true way to find it, is to grow grow grow!

Peace man, I hope other people give you more helpful advice.

is all that going to be side lighting?

Are you going to have another source of light above them. and 14k lumens is not sufficient for 12 plants.

Id recommend hanging some cfls in there to boost your light out put

mate im in the process of growing, my seedlings are 2 weeks old, im using fluros like you but im considering buying an hps...
fluros are ok for seedlings and will produce decent buds if used to their full potential BUT if you want great bud and a lot of it then hps is the way to go

itl have to do for now anyways cos i cant afford a hps light yet. Im workin on it

IF ANYONE HAS A HALF DECENT HPS LIGHT THEY WANT RID OF FOR FREE, ILL PAY P + P

yeh man it will work definately just not AS well,
make sure the surroundings are painted matt white if not aluminium foil is the way to go because you can have as much light as you want but if it doesnt penetrate through all the leaves then its useless

Ffs don't use aluminium foil, it creates hotspots in the room and is less reflective than flat white paint.
A plant requires a minimum of 3000 lumens per square foot to grow, for decent growth you want 5000 or more. Is your growspace about 1.5 sq m, or 1.5m on either side? It's either 16 or 25 sq feet, so 15k lumens is not even the minimum amount if you fill the space.
You can get an e-conolight for $20, its a 150w hps and if I recall right puts out about 15k lumens, which will make a big improvement if budget is tight.
Those flouros would probably do if you keep em close, up to the point your plants get bigger than 6-8 inch tall and then they will need more light.

my plants sit in a hydroponics flood drian system , that is :

1.5 meters left to right

nearly 1 meter front to back

it can hold 12 plANts but i dont have to ugrow 12

To grow a modicum of bud with those lights, you would need them surrounding a 3x1' space. This could be somewhat difficult to achieve since they are 4 and 5 foot long, I suggest you upgrade your lighting.
You have roughly 15sq ft of space, requiring minimum of 45,000 lumens to make plants grow. For good growth you want at least 75,000 lumens, the best thing would be a 600w hps, or 400w with side lighting (which you already have). If you can't swing for that, look into a $20 e-conolight as a stop-gap solution until you can, or until you decide you don't need that much bud anyway.

that econolight has just recently been raised in price to 42.90 unfortunately. still a great deal but not the steal that it used to be.

btw, im thinking of investing in a 1x1 meter grow tent @ 2 metres high, and it comes with a 600 hps light
