What up loud blunts, doc, mindmelted...

Ok i ended up doing the Brazil so i had to kill off the first youngins. I cracked the 7 Joey Weed A11 seeds on the 8/18 for a new grow. Instead of creating a new journal ill keep this one around as everything has been pretty similar to this point and im lazy. 6/7 germinated. I used the same method as before. Only used humidity dome for 1 day. I dont like the sreath they create and never had issues not using them in the past.
7/25 day 7

8/06 Day 17

6/08 Day 19 - moved 4 of the largest plants to the flower chamber to continue veg under 600 MH

Nute Soup is pretty strong but plants seem to like it. 690 PPM at .5 conversion. PH kept around 5.8.

You really can't see too well but these Apoolo 11s are already really branchy underneath the main leaves. A11 are supposed to be short and branchy but i didnt think to this extent. The blue t5s and MH are keeping them compact to a certain degree as well i guess. I will get better pics this weekend.

I wish they would be taller or more spread out to utilize my height and get light under the cannopy to the smaller leaves. I want to begin flowering by the 18th so 10 days.

Oh and the other two plants are still in the 18 gallon rubbermaid in the veg chamber under the T5. I only have 3 of the 2 ft bulbs on to conserve energy. I will have 6 plants right now. Im hoping for females obviously. I will keep the best 4 (if im that lucky) and kill off the rest. I am realistically probably looking at 2-3 females.

Should i get rid of that runt one on the right?

There are also some tomatoe plants i started in the back center and left front netpots...

Well actually shouldnt be a problem yet as im not using my co2 so my air temps are around 80, i want to plan on trying to get them up to about 83-85 but have to toy with my cooltube exhaust to get the temp up. My air pump is pulling from a 71 degree area at 360 GPH. So my res temps stay between 70-73 at all times. At night my air temps drop to 70 with my lights out. I know alot of people like their rez temps at or below 70. I dont. Even when my chiller is attached i will keep it at 73. I have never had a problem w/ my root system when i have kept them at or below 75, had a good air pump to keep the DO up, and did a rez change once a month at least. I also use 2ml hygrozyme a gallon during res changes but dont know if that is doing anything. I have Hydroguard and peroxide but dont feel i need it unless something pops up.

I do have a 1/5 rez chiller though that i plan to use when i hook up the C02 because i like air temps around 95 with Co2 and if my temps are 95 my rez temps may exceed 75. I didnt want to fuss w/ the co2 or chiller this grow though so they are still boxed up. I can always hook it up when i need it. I am moving in Nov and when i get to my new location co2 and chiller will def be in action.

Thanks for stopping by bro.

trust me man.... once you get the damn root rot youll wish you hadnt done it... plug in your water chiller for your water... that has nothing to do with the air.. im not sure if im understanding you right.... rez temps are very important or you will grow pythium .. trust me man...

actually nevermind...i re read your post and you seem to have it under control.. ihave heard that the hygrozyme is very good for the issue... good luck buddy..

I know rootrot is a pain as i see alot of people getting them and the pics look nasty. But forcing cool air through my water keeps my rez temps managable. Below 73 usually 71-72. I have done maybe 12-15 dwc grows to completion and never had root rot. My roots have never had any issues in the past and my rez temps have generally been as hight as 75. One grow i did in summer my rez temps hit 80 for a few hours a day and i know that is pushing it but it was fine. My first 2-3 grows were done w/ roomates in college and we didnt even monitor the rez temps (or tds for that matter) and they were fine as well.

I undertsand temp plays a major role in root rot and i agree. But i fell you can compensate for that to a certain with ton of air to get the water moving and oxyngenated.

8/10 - Day 21

Well update time. I have the res temp at 73. TDS at 650 PPM on .5 scale and PH at 5.9. Growth has really taken off under the 600 MH at 8" from plant. Temps are at 78.

Here is the two lone plants in the 18 gallon rubbermaid under T5. Notice the growth in just 2 days.

Just 2 days later ; today or 8/10

Here are the plants under the 600MH in 31 gallon res. Notice the growth in just 2 days.!!

I have never grown plants so short and branchy before. Say i plan on flowering in a week. Should i be trimming anything now to opens some of the leaves under the canopy up to the light?

Please help a brother out...Thanks

dude.. there are just as many people that will tell you to cut the bottoms to ensure all the plants food goes to the tops.... your not there yet and i would want to see you get as many tops as possible... they are still short enough (and early enough in the cycle)... top those ladies to make more shoots... more shoots..more bud.. period... i dont like to chop anything off until it start budding good.... once you see 1 inch buds and see that the bottoms isnt going to be fattening up too much then i would take them off... but for now... leave the ladies....

1 thing about DWC is that since the plants live in such a nutrient rich environment they grow alot of shoots real close to the bottom... i know that stage your going through right now... its time for the real growin...

Alright Genfranco, thanks for the advice. I went ahead and topped or maybe fimmed 3 of the 5 plants that look promising. I am hoping to go ahead and induce flowering in 5 days so i hope they recover by then.

I never knew sites like this existed. I went 3 years with just a blueberry mother, taking clones and throwing them in my dwc and letting them do their thing. This is the first time i have grwon from seed ...lol. Hopefully new techniques will make my results better.

you wont regret it.... You know... it will have plenty of time to recoop... hell there are people that fim/top the top at the end of week 1 of budding... they say it makes two tops.. and that would be true... but i myself preffer doing it the way you did it... dont worry... when they are in 12 12 they will grow another 12 to 18 inches... amazing....

dont you remember ... i started flowring mine when they were about that size and it overflowed my net in no time....

8/12 - Day 23 from dropping seeds

Remod of office, new temp location...

TDS 700 on .5 conversion / temp 78 /res temp 72/ ph 5.9

Well i did the topping 30 hr ago...here is a pic of it on my smallest plant still under the T5.

Here is another shot of the same plant in the 18 gallon res....

Here are the pics of the 4 under the 600MH in the 31 gallon res.

Some more comparison shots.... only 2 days between shots!!

Under 600 MH
8/08-------------------------------------- 8/10 --------------------------------------8/12 (front two were topped 30 hours ago)

And the lonely one under the T5s Under 3 2' bulb t5 (2 blue, 1 red)

8/08 --------------------------------------8/10--------------------------------------- 8/12

So its only been 4 days since some started under the MH and the one i left under the t5 started was the smallest, but it seems to be catching up. It doesnt have as much under growth but the width is about the same as the others. In the future i will control variables better and test. But in the future i will use my t5s as long as possible to conserve energy as the difference appears to be none if the t5's arent better.

Based on the growth so far i will wait 2 more days and then put them in a 24 hour dark period and into 12/12. I know 25 days from seed veg time is not ideal time to flower. I would rather wait two more weeks, alternating nodes, or showing some sex but am under some time constraints and dont want my roots to get to large and become tangled by the time i kill the males.
